Only few of the world's languages are represented in the list of languages of this website - the majority are not. I don't see any reason for favouring certain languages by adding them to the list, if no lyrics have been submitted in the languages anyway. So my question is just, have you got some lyrics ready in Prussian, Lower Sorbian, Old Polish, Kashubian or Silesian?

I guess that should be added the languages or dialects for which there are lyrics.
How many? One, several? That's a detail for the admins to decide.
I once added one in Mirandese, which is a dialect of Asturian. Since Mirandese is not in the list, I added it to the Asturian entry. If I get several lyrics in Mirandese, I'll ask to add this dialect to the list.

I perfectly understand you. Admins are the same everywhere. To get something, first you have to listen to what they do not want to do. I see no reason why we would not have to add all languages. Even with small description or at least with link to Wikipedia article. But it depends on admins will to develop this site.

There is already hymen in Old Polish here https://lyricstranslate.com/pl/hymns-bogurodzica-lyrics.html and soon I will send more. I sent Upper Sorbian Hymen (was added before for only two translations) and have also Lower Sorbian version so I am waiting for that language to be added. I learn Prussian so soon I will translating the songs in this language. I also have some songs in Kashubian and Silesian also want to translate on modern Polish. Look how much songs are in Dari - one. You even have Klingonish... There are seven German dialects here. I also can give you all Polish dialects but I give only two most distinctive. I can give even seven more variants of Góral etnolect. Sorbian also have six variants.

I think that the site could have also a longer list of languages to choose from (like many sites in other subjects), even if some are not yet used on the site.
The other option is to add languages on demand, as soon as the need arises.
Since this site deals with lyrics, songs, poems, I guess it is expected to have less known or less used languages or dialects.
I hope to see here a lot more lyrics in other languages and dialects in future.
These are just my opinions. I'm not admin. ;)

I do not object to more languages being added to the list of languages - as long as they are needed. It is generally thought that the world has between 6,000 and 7,000 languages, and each of these are equally important. This is, however, a website for lyrics and translated lyrics, and its aim is not to provide neither a list of all the world's languages nor a small description of all the world's languages. If a user wants to contribute with lyrics in a language which is not on the list, he or she simply has to ask for it to be added, and it will be.

I'm very aware of the lyrics in Klingon and Dari on this website, and as a linguist I am also very aware of the different Slavic languages and dialects. However, the difference between Klingon and Dari, and some of the Slavic languages/dialects you mentioned, is that lyrics in Klingon and Dari are present on the website, while no lyrics are present in some of the languages/dialects you mentioned.

I do agree though that Old Polish and Upper Sorbian should be added to the list, if lyrics already exist in these language. And I also agree that Lower Sorbian, Silesian, Kashubian and Prussian should be added, if you have lyrics ready for these languages.

I also agree with these (and other) languages being added, but only if they're really necessary (if there are, for example, 100 lyrics written/sung in this language added). And of course, this extends to a number of people who may be native/fluent in the said languages and are active here (there's no sense in we adding a language like Guarani if none of the users contributes with translations to/from this language).

Recently at the Mod Room (we have a topic there to request new languages) we have disclosed/merged two entries because they were requested long ago but only 3 lyrics had been added in each of them.

There's a special case for me. I requested the Admins to add the Wolof language to the website because there was a single song partially written and performed in this language to the website. I'll ask them to remove it because it turned out to be unnecessary, as it can be seen here.

I see no problem adding the languages that you've mentioned, but as francisco.translate said:

francisco.translate написа:

If only 2 lyrics written in these languages are added, it's unnecessary (that's what I think) to have them added.

EDIT: Plus, more languages haven't been added because of an aesthetic question. It's already difficult for many users to choose a language for a translation/request/song's lyrics with 161 languages -some users choose a variant of the language instead of the main language, like Middle English instead of English-, imagine if this list is extended to 1000-like languages? Plus, whenever we would add content in these languages (if the list reaches such length), it would be virtually impossible for us to find the 'more common' languages amidst it.

I think it is wrong that there has to be a specific amount of lyrics for a language before it can be added, as too many languages would be excluded simply because they don't have a huge userbase or musical/literary tradition. I think a single lyrics is enough for a language to be added.

Ok, so wait until people will send more lyrics and then mail to all of them with a request of update the data and selecting proper language. If language index is to long you need to divide it into parts of the world or implement language recognition system or simply add the searching window instead an index.

For what I understand (without much searching of what already exists here), if a language is not on the list, we can use the "Other" option. I did it already. For example, the British anthem in Scots: https://lyricstranslate.com/en/british-national-anthem-god-save-queen-go...
-
By the way I was rather surprised I didn't find Scots on the list. It is regarded by some as an English dialect, but it is recognised as a language by the British authorities and by the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages.
I'd expect to see more lyrics in Scots. ;)

Soon I will add lyrics in other languages I requested.

Technically it would be the right thing to do, in my conception. The only thing that wouldn't be necessary would be mailing everyone (Moderators and Editors can change it), we could only leave a comment instead of waiting an email/PM reply.

And sometime ago, a language tree system had been suggested. But it will take some time to change the current system, it needs some thinking and not sudden actions.

@francisco.translate: Scots is in the list, it's called "English (Scots)".
I've marked your translation as that.

@Knee427: I don't remember the other language that was removed from the list, but Early New Modern German wasn't removed due to having too few entries but due to the entries we had being too similiar to modern German to justify their own entry.

And only languages with at least 100 lyrics? I'm fine with the current situation, only languages with any lyrics at all.

@Sjęgniew: 7 German dialects? No, we have 5 (out of which 4 are the big main dialect groups, which all have tons of subdialects - the 5th, Kölsch, is one of the central dialects which imo could be merged with the central dialects entry but which is rather famous), and 2 older versions of the language which differ so much from the current language that they can't be understood without problems by German natives.

___________

Well, I agree that the language list has become quite long but that's why I hope that the admins will finally follow my suggestion to change it from a list to a tree system with integrated search.

Thanks for the recall, I wasn't sure of it at the time of my first comment. My mistake.

And with 100-like lyrics, I meant, languages that span/would span many lyrics/translations, not only one or two (in this case I think its better to add it as 'Other' and add the official language in a submitter comment).

First, thank you for fixing the language name in lyrics.
Second, now I'm surprised that Scots is listed as "English (Scots)". It may lead to confusion between the Scots language (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scots_language) and the Scottish English (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottish_English).
Other confusion may be like mine: I didn't find Scots on the list, because I didn't search under "English".

According to Wikipedia, Scottish English "may or may not be considered distinct from the Scots language". And I couldn't really tell whether the lyrics we have here are Scottish English dialect or Scots language.

Ok, but Scots is recognized as a language in ways that Scottish English is not:
- Classified as a "traditional language" by the Scottish Government.
- Classified as a "regional or minority language" under the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages, ratified by the United Kingdom in 2001.
- Classified as a "traditional language" by Tha Noarth/Sooth Boord o Leid.
- Classified by Ethnologue (http://www.ethnologue.com/language/sco).
- ISO 639-2/3: sco.
- Linguasphere: 52-ABA-aa.
But, apart those "technical" details, I think the important is to have it clearly presented in this site (and elsewhere). Putting it as "English (Scots)", perhaps is not the best option. Just my humble opinion, of course.
