The vagabond

I have the look of a lost girl 1
But I'm a very nice person
I'm a princess from a castle
Where everything is bright, where everything is beautiful
A big garden full of flowers
In the blue sky, my heart soars
The flowers hanging from the trees
Are always white as in springtime

But a vagabond
Who's a handsome boy
Sings songs to me
Which give shivers
He walks the roads
Come rain or shine
He sings for whoever will listen
His hair in the wind
He's a vagabond
Who's a handsome boy
He sings songs
La la la la

He said to me: "Leave your castle.
Against my heart it will be warm.
I will give you love
and we will love each other for ever."
He wasn't a wealthy prince
He was my prince charming
As I was a well brought up young girl
I couldn't become a lost girl

He's a vagabond
Who's a handsome boy
He sings songs
Which give shivers
He walks the roads
Come rain or shine
He sings for whoever will listen
His hair in the wind
He's a vagabond
Who's a handsome boy
He sings songs
La la la la

But my story isn't true
It is just a dream that I had
And when I awoke
The sun was on my pillow
And every night, When I go to sleep
I search in vain for my golden dream
This time I will leave my castle
To follow my handsome prince

He's a vagabond
Who's a handsome boy
He sings songs
Which give shivers
And I see myself on the road
Come rain or shine
And it's my heart he listens to
Our love in the wind
We're vagabonds
We sings songs
And I have the shivers
La la la la la la la la!

"Une fille de rien" is just a poor miserable girl. Prostitution is by no means implied by this expression (although prostitutes may often be regarded as such).
