Martín Chacón Carrasco was born in Juchitán de Zaragoza, Oaxaca (Mexico), August 23, 1930 and graduated from the Escuela Nacional De Maestros in 1951. Chacón was a primary school teacher at ENSM (Escuela Normal Superior) in the Federal District and in 1958 became an English teacher in several middles schools in the Federal District. Chacón can trace his ancestors back to Juchitán and is a trilingual speaker of Spanish, Zapotec and English (the latter which he learned in courses he took when he was older). Chacón is one of the very few, if only trilingual speaker whose languages includes English. It was in the 1970's that he met a fellow artist from his hometown, Gabriel López Chiñas; where they collaborated and later released the 1978 LP "Canciones Zapotecas del Istmo", which consisted of poems by one of them and traditional songs of the time. In his lifetime, Chacón recorded 4 LPs with the record label "Discos Luzca".
