The Great Insurrection
It was in April nineteen eighty one
down in the ghetto of Brixton
that them Babylon1 caused such a friction
and it brought about a great insurrection

then we create gossip
and we let them raid.
How they run, gone
gone to plan a counteraction
but the plastic bullets
and the water canon7

- 1. Rasta slang for a government or system, in this case the police.
- 2. refers to the Swamp 81 operation
- 3. a plainclothes operation to reduce crime and uniformed patrols were increased in the area [x]
- 4. where rumors and news are spread throughout the ghetto
- 5. star is Rasta for 'to show off or to sport something'
- 6. refers to the 'George Pub', one of many establishments burned down during the riot or refer to Lord Scarman
- 7. they hosed them down with water
- 8. either the sound of shots fire or the violence going on in the riots
- 9. refers to Leslie George Scarman.
