Loving is allowed

You came one day
to suddenly change my life.
We sketched out all ways forward,
you came and I learnt to be happy.

Kiss me or kill me,
this time it mustn't happen
that I fall in love and you ask me to quit.

There is no-one who will dare to doubt you or me
nor anyone who can control this love and this pain.
No-one can tell us that which must not be told,
and so what if they cry to me that today I must leave.

There's no-one who can stop me I know that's true,
I know my will to fight frightens you.
I'm not going to let it end just like this,
I know it's allowed, loving is allowed...

Disregard the noise,
remember only what you lived with me.
There's a future if we remain together,
giving up was never an option...

Therefor..

I know it's allowed, loving is allowed...

Hi Rainymoon

Thanks for the comments.

I must remember to take my glasses of when using my laptop, because when I forget I tend to misread things because I have very poor short-distance vision with the glasses on. I guess that's what made me translate `si ' as `sí '. I think a floating "if" like that has to be translated "so what if", pretty much as you said.

I guess racket is ambiguous (I intended it to mean "unwanted noise", and I don't think it can mean "barullo" but it can certainly mean "alboroto" or "estafa" as well as a few other things, so I'll go with your suggestion of "noise".

I disagree about "therefor"; the word has two different meanings, and one meaning is conventionally spelt with a final "e" and the other isn't. "Therefore" is about cause while "therefor"is about reason/motivation. This isn't a strict spelling rule, though, just a convention to which some people adhere, and the with final "e" spelling is acceptable for the reason/motivation case.

Apart from "therefore" I pretty much agree with your comments. But I think that in the context of this song a literal tramslation of "salida" in English would give an impression of great pessimism with no hope for a viable ongoing relationship, and the words elsewhere in the song make it clear that that is not the intent. But "futures" isn't the right word either so I'll change that to "ways forward" - if you don't think tht fits, let me know.

Re your last paragraph - yes, the comments did help and receiving them made my day more pleasant than it would have been without them.

Best Wishes

Dear Tom, dear Ana!

I've incidentally come across your discussion about "therefore" and "therefor" and, Bésame o mátame, can't stay away from it as quite a few people use this site to study their English.

Tom, you're right saying that both adverbs exist in English. The problem is that "therefore" is a conjunctive adverb to link two independent sentences with a meaning of consequence. "The item I had bought turned out to be faulty therefore I took it back to the shop and got the refund"

"Therefor" is a regular adverb which should be placed at the end of the sentence with the meaning "for the above mentioned" "The item I had bought turned out to be faulty so I took it back to the shop and got the refund therefor (= for that)

All in all, it gives us the following "The item I had bought turned out faulty therefore I took it back to the shop and got the refund therefor"

Since you're using the word as a conjunctive adverb it must be "therefore" and only 'therefore".

I hope I've clarified the matter

Staying a true and appreciative friend to both of you,

Nadia :)
