The Miserable

Francouzština

Les Misérables

Venez écouter bonnes gens
La balade des pauvres gens
L'histoire de Cosette
Et de ce pauvre diable
Qu'on appelle les Misérables

Ils n'habitent pas les beaux quartiers
Ils n'ont pas toujours à manger
Mais même si souvent
Le destin les accable
Ils gagneront, les Misérables

Ils gagneront, les Misérables

The Miserable

Good people,come and listen
to the ballad of the poor
The story of Cosette
and this poor devil*
that we call the Miserable

They don't live in the posh districts
They don't always have something to eat
But even if they're often
overcome by destiny
They will be victorious, the Miserable

They will be victorious, the Miserable

They actually say "les Misérables" in English too.

Another victory of French over English. Wink

Yes I know,it's because it's the title of a famous novel on which several musicals, films,...and even cartoons (I didn't know that Wink ) are based... When I translated, I looked it up and found this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_mis%C3%A9rables ... should have added it in the comments...I would like it if French could really win of English...(would be easier for me)...though I don't see this happening soon, or maybe only in our hearts Smile

I was trying to suggest that you shouldn't translate les Misérables.
I guess every English speaking person knows what "les miz" means. Probably every literate person in the world, for that matter.
