God forsakes (Mark) Antony

When suddenly, in the midnight hour, heard is
an invisible troupe passing
with exquisite tunes, with voices—
over your fortune now failing you, over your deeds
that failed, over your life plans
that all turned out fallacies, don't vainly grieve.
As well prepared for a long time now, as courageous,
bid it farewell, to the Alexandria that's leaving.
Above all don't get fooled, never say it was
a dream, that your ears have deceived you;
don't condescend to such vain hopes.
As well prepared for a long time now, as courageous,
as fit for one who has been worthy of such a city,
approach steadily toward the window,
and listen emotional, but not
with the pleas and complaints of cowards,
to the sounds as a last indulgence,
to the exquisite instruments of the mystical troupe,
and bid it farewell, to the Alexandria you're losing.
