While the Ottoman rule, the Turks used to kidnap the young and beautiful women, take them in their harems, and there, they would force them into changing their religion, from Orthodox Christianity to Islam. This “process”, is called ‘poturcuvanje’ (it means: to be made Turkish). This is the motive for the song
- 3. 'Saray' is a Turkic word of Persian origin (سرای sarai) which means ‘palace’.
