Da rief ich : No no no no no!

Was willst du eigentlich?"

Produzent vom Film kommt an,
der würde dann mein Ehemann.
Da rief ich : No no no no no!

Was willst du eigentlich?"

I Want a Cowboy for a Husband

I want a cowboy for a husband
I want a cowboy for a husband
It has nothing to do with the way he shoots
Rather, it has to do with the way he kisses
I want a cowboy for a husband

Mom says: "Now's the time,
You need a husband, and today would be best!
Go for the boy next door
He works for the railroad!"
And I cry: No no no no no,
With him, I wouldn't be happy anymore

"Why on earth not,
Think of the security,
And the pretty pension
From the railroad,
what else could you want?"

I want a cowboy for a husband
I want a cowboy for a husband
It has nothing to do with the way he shoots
Rather, it has to do with the way he kisses
I want a cowboy for a husband

Dad says: If I was so beautiful,
and had a figure like Loren 1
I'd take the first film producer
That came along for a husband.
And I cry: No no no no no,
With him, I wouldn't be happy anymore

"But I don't understand,
Why not a guy from the movie business?
One day you'll be better off than your father,
what else could you want?"

I want a cowboy for a husband
I want a cowboy for a husband
It has nothing to do with the way he shoots
Rather, it has to do with the way he kisses
I want a cowboy for a husband

Hello huron.pliskin,
thank you for translating.

"Loren" of course refers to the italian movie star Sophia Loren.

"schöne Pension von der Bundesbahn" -> "pretty pension from the Federal German Railway Company" or so

You shall be better off than your father someday" or something like that

:)

Well, it's definitely not translated literally, but it is not wrong...

-> And it's not the shooting I fancy
It's 'cause I know that a cowboy is good at kissing

:) My try...

Here you have another typo:

And I cry: And I cry: No no no no no

:)

I don't care that much about his shooting abilities // For I know cowboys are great kissers" sounds slightly better IMO.

What does 'nen translate as? Is it a contraction or shortening of a longer word?

Exactly. 'nen is short for "einen"

Likewise "eine" and "einem" are often shortened to "'ne" and "'nem" respectively.

Whereas some local dialects (e.g. in the North) shorten to the first syllable ("ein'" for "einen", e.g. in "Der macht ein' auf dicke Hose").
And sometimes that is further shortened to just 'n' ("Haste mal 'n Euro?").

Thanks for the clarification.
