They Call Me Street (Me Llaman Calle)

Ισπανικά

Me Llaman Calle

Me llaman calle
Pisando baldosas
La revoltosa y tan perdida

Me llaman calle
Calle de noche
Calle de día

Me llaman calle
Hoy tan cansada
Hoy tan vacía

Como maquinita por la gran ciudad

Me llaman calle
Me subo a tu coche
Me llaman calle de malegría
Calle dolida
Calle cansada de tanto amar

Voy calle abajo
Voy calle arriba
No me rebajo ni por la vida

Me llaman calle
Y ese es mi orgullo
Yo sé que un día llegará
Yo sé que un día vendrá mi suerte
Un día me vendrá a buscar
A la salida un hombre bueno
Pa' toda la vida y sin pagar
Mi corazón no es de alquilar

Me llaman calle
Me llaman calle
Calle sufrida
Calle tristeza de tanto amar

Me llaman calle
Calle más calle

Me llaman Calle
La sin futuro
Me llaman Calle
La sin salida
Me llaman Calle
Calle más calle
La de mujeres de la vida
Suben pa' bajo
Bajan pa' arriba
Como maquinita por la gran ciudad.

Me llaman calle
Me llaman calle
Calle sufrida
Calle tristeza de tanto amar

Me llaman calle
Calle más calle.

Me llaman siempre
Y a cualquier hora,
Me llaman guapas
Siempre a deshora,
Me llaman puta
También princesa
Me llaman calle sin nobleza.
Me llaman calle
Calle sufrida,
Calle perdida de tanto amar.

Me llaman calle
Me llaman calle
Calle sufrida
Calle tristeza de tanto amar.

(A la Puri, a la Carmen, Carolina, Bibiana, ...)

Me llaman calle
Me llaman calle
Calle sufrida
Calle tristeza de tanto amar.

Me llaman calle
Me llaman calle
Calle sufrida
Calle tristeza de tanto amar.

Me llaman calle
Me llaman calle
Calle sufrida
Calle tristeza de tanto amar.

They Call Me Street

Εκδόσεις: #1#2
They call me street
stepping on tile
twisting, winding, and oh so lost
they call me street
street by night
street by day
they call me street
i'm running tired
i'm running empty
like a little machine through the great city
they call me street
i get in your car
they call me street
i should be happy
tired street, hurt street
from loving so much
i'm street below
i'm street above
i don't back down,
not even for life itself
they call me street
and that's my pride
i know that some day he will arrive
i know that one day
my luck will come
one day, a good man will come
he'll come and find me in the end
giving his life, and he won't have to pay
my heart is not for rent
they call me street (x2)
suffered street, street of sadness
from loving so much
they call me street
street and yet more street
they call me street the one with no future
they call me street the one with a dead end
they call me street
street and yet more street
the street of life's women
climbing below
descending above
like a little machine
through the great city

they call me street (x2)
suffered street
street of sadness
from loving so much

they call me street
street and yet more street
they call me always
at any hour
they call me gorgeous
always at a bad time
they call me whore
as well as princess
they call me street
that's my nobility
they call me street
suffered street, lost street
from loving so much

I had a hard time deciding what to write for "calle de noche, calle de dia." Is it "street of the night, street of the day?" Or is it "street by night, street by day?" I decided to go with the latter, as it must be put in context with the song's namesake lyrics; "they call me street." They call my street by day, they call me street by night. By itself, without the prior lyrics, it COULD be translated as "(I'm a) street of the night, street of the day," but that's not the case so...

hello! Smile
just one thing to add to this song.. it appears in the spanish movie Princesas, which tells the story of a girl named Caye.. as Caye is pronunciated in the same way as calle, i think 'me llaman calle' has 2 different (but associated) meanings, 'my name is street' and 'my name is Caye'...
and i really like your translation!! Smile

This is just such a beautiful song... beautiful, yet tragic. I've yet to see the movie... I myself am a linguist, so I understand that somethings just can't be translated.

It looks like "Caye" and "Calle" are an intended pun, and there really isn't any more meaning beyond that. "Caye" is the name of this (presumable) woman of the street? Whose name happens to sound exactly like the Spanish word for "street"?

It was hard to tranlate this song and still try to keep with the rhythm of the original song. Some of it I just had to sacrifice for meaning. I'm glad at least one person likes it... Smile

Great job, Kogejoe, this song is not easy. I would do "they call me steet, be it day, be it night" I never heard some Spanish name similar to caye, anyway the song clearly talks about a rent-girl. In a poetical point of view, for us, it's not so absurd to call someone by 'street', but it all depends on the context.

yeah, i think it is an intended pun, because the movie i've mentioned is exactly about a rent-girl, so we have the context...
and for me this makes it even more tragic and beautiful... i love this song!
and.. "be it day, be it night" sounds really nice!!

Good job, both tranlations of this song...However, as a person who studies Spanish and who´s doing translations from Spanish to Slovak, I think that "calle"- beside the name of the girl in the movie- shouldn´t be translated as a street. In my opinion, it´s just another way to say "prostitute" and not to be rude. (Say "slut" is too harsh and rude, even if the song is from the street and thereso the language is not so fine and delicate.) IF a person doesn´t know the story behind the song, he or she can be easily misunderstood...Smile So, with a clear mind, I would substitute it for "prostitute" as well and it won´t take a poetry from the song Smile
