Ten small Jägermeister

Εκδόσεις: #1#2#3
Ten small Jägermeister smoked a joint
One of them didn't make, so only nine were left
Nine small Jägermeister wanted to inherit
In order to inherit something, one had to die
Eight small Jägermeister liked to drive fast
Seven drove to Düsseldorf, one to Cologne
One for all, all for one
When one's gone, why cry?
One day it will be everyone's turn, don't bother
That's what life is like, you or me
Seven small Jägermeister went to a Rendezvous
But one unexpectedly met the husband
Six small Jägermeister wanted to save taxes
One got caught, five had to pay the rest
Five small Jägermeister were checked
The police took it too serious, and only four were left
One for all, all for one
When one's gone, why cry?
One day it will be everyone's turn, don't bother
That's what life is like, you or me
Onece everyone has to go
And when your heart breakes
The world won't bother
Hey, come on, don't worry
Four small Jägermeister at the Bundeswehr
They drank in a bet, the best is no more
Three small Jägermeister went into a pub
They had steak with beans and one had MCD
Two small Jägermeister begged for asylum
One was take, the other wasn't

Zehn kleine Jägermeister

Ein kleiner Jägermeister war nicht gern allein,
Drum lud er sich zum Weihnachtsfest neun Jägermeister ein
Zehn kleine Jägermeister rauchten einen Joint
Den einen hat es umgehau'n, da waren's nur noch neun
Neun kleine Jägermeister wollten gerne erben
Damit es was zu erben gab, musste einer sterben

Quite like your translation. I suggest to use "little" though instead of "small" because the song refers to " Zehn kleine Negerlein" which is "Ten little Indians" in english. So everyone will understand the relation.

I agree with chnilly on your translation, and his (her?) comment about how kleine should be translated as little. Also, Jägermeister should be translated 'hunter', and Bundeswehr is army.

Although Bundeswehr should be translated, Jägermeister shouldn't as it would remove the German feel from the song, and most English speakers are familiar with the word anyway. IMO the main issue with the translation, not that it isn't a good one, is that MCD is not in use, in BE at least, for Mad Cow Disease - it's BSE.

I am translating this song to Serbian and... If I don't translate Jägermeister as hunter then Serbian speakers will think it refers to Jägermeister as a drink. So what do you think I should do?

Do you think the song refers to the drink? Absolutely NO!, they are counting hunters instead of Indians (the Irish children's rhym) Smile

Thank you for the explanation! Smile
However, I gave up on translating this one. Maybe someday. Smile

Actually, they do both, in a way.
"Jägermeister" does not refer to hunters in German but only to the drink.
The song can be understood as a drinking song sung while drinking one Jägermeister after the other and making up funny stories as to where the one you just drank went.
However in addition, you can see from the video they're using fictional animals (looking like the deer from the Jägermeister bottle walking on his hind legs) as protagonists, the "Jägermeisters", who are what the song is also about.
