Piknik (Russia) - Всё хорошо! (French translation)

Russian

Всё хорошо!

В том краю далеких грёз
Нет печали, нет и слёз –
Всё хорошо, всё хорошо.

Капитаны пьют вино,
Корабли идут на дно –
Всё хорошо, всё хорошо.

В том краю без бурь и гроз
Жизнь как будто не всерьёз –
Всё хорошо, всё хорошо.

Капитаны пьют вино,
Корабли идут на дно –
Всё хорошо, всё хорошо.

Tout va très bien ! [chantable]

Versions: #1#2
Au pays des vains espoirs,
il n'y a pas de désespoir.
Tout va très bien, tout va très bien.

Les capitaines se saoulent
pendant que les bateaux coulent.
Tout va très bien, tout va très bien.

Dans ce pays du ciel bleu,
vivre n'a pas l'air sérieux.
Tout va très bien, tout va très bien.

Les capitaines se saoulent
pendant que les bateaux coulent.
Tout va très bien, tout va très bien.

Author's comments:

There you go Mr. St Sol : equirhythmic and rhyming.
Could not salvage the stress pattern though.
.
As for the meaning:
.
In the land of wan hopes
there's no such thing as despair
everything's fine (x2)
.
Captains are getting drunk
while the ships sink
.
In this land of the blue sky
living does not seem a serious thing

Good progress! Regarding "la vie, ce n'est pas sérieux." line, the original line meaning is:
"The life does not appear to be serious" rather than "life is not serious"
Perhaps this point can be incorporated into your translation ;)

Well I produced a more exact translation that makes that point clear, but I didn't find a way to cram that into 7 syllables yet Regular smile
"la vie n'a pas l'air sérieuse" would work, but that would mean something a bit different and ruin the rhyme !

OK, got it : "living does not seem like a serious thing". Should be adequate, I think.
I sure need practice though Regular smile

As for the stress pattern, about every word in French is stressed on the last syllable, so it would practically require to use 2 syllable words everywhere.

This song's music definitely borrows Jethro Tull's style and arrangement, which is not surprising: Ian Anderson is one of Ed's musical idols.

Good to know. I'm not familiar with him, but that's a good occasion to have a listen.
