Miladin Šobić - Ašik Ajša (English translation)

Ašik Ajša

Ni sad ne znam kako je dovedoh
one noci do studenske sobe
ni sad ne znam kako kraj nje legoh
bjese ljeto i na njoj malo robe

Sva pokisla od ljetnjega pljuska
niz lice se kotrljale kapi
tanka suknja kukovima uska
gladna kuja za kurjakom vapi

A nije znala da sam pjesnik
i da moze u stihove moje
Asik Ajsa u najboljem dobu
udje u njih, bas kroz moju sobu

Strgoh suknju, docekase bedra
niz kicmu mi triput prodje jeza
skidoh bluzu, dotakoh joj njedra
jezik mi se u cvorove sveza

Na prozor mi bijese smokva sjela
netaknuta od veranja i kradje
cudila se sto je dozivjela
da vidi nesto i od sebe sladje

A nije znala da sam pjesnik
i da moze u stihove moje
Asik Ajsa u najboljem dobu
udje u njih, bas kroz moju sobu

Pricala mi kako zivi sama
muz joj radi za njemacku marku
novca ima, al' joj ljubav treba
a ljuljala me kao more barku

Mozda i nije htjela
mozda i nije htjela da se da
tijelo joj vrelo, pogibija prava
a vani kisa pojacava

Kod komsije igrali su karte
cule su se psovke i galama
casovnik je svercovao sate
od prozora bjezala je tama

Zaspali smo onako postranačke
dok se zora zarila u licu
posle lude noci dubrovacke
cesto sanjam u polju zdrebicu

A nije znala da sam pjesnik
i da moze u stihove moje
Asik Ajsa u najboljem dobu
udje u njih, bas kroz moju sobu

Ta noc prodje, za njom mnoga ljeta
u onoj sobi ko zna ko sad zivi
lijepu Ajsu ja vise ne sretah
osta pjesma, jedan papir sivi

Kad ostane zivot bez kaputa
i u dusu zima se zavuce
kada starost vidi kraj od puta
sjecat' cu se k'o da bijese juce

Ashik Aysha

I'm yet unsure how did I manage
to bring her in my dorm room that night
I'm yet unsure how did I lay next to her
as it was summer and little close did she wear

A summer rain made her all wet
Tiny drops were running down her face
Her dress was tight
A hungry bitch was calling out her dog

Yet she didn't know that I was a poet
Nor that she could become part of my verse
by entering my room
that Ashik Aysha, at the peak of her best age

I tore down her skirt, her tights were waiting
A shiver went down my spine
I took off her blouse, and touched her breasts
Then I got all tongue-tied

A fig tree was leaning on my window
It was never climbed on or had its fruits stolen
And it was wondering to see
Something which was sweeter than thee

Yet she didn't know that I was a poet
Nor that she could become part of my verse
by entering my room
that Ashik Aysha, at the peak of her best age

She was telling me that she lived alone
That her husband was working abroad
She had money, but was lacking love
And she rocked me as the sea rocks the boats

She may not have wanted
She may not have wanted to surrender herself
Her body was hot, to die for
As the rain kept falling outside

At my neighbors' someone was playing cards
You could hear the noise and the swearing
The clock was stealing the hours
Away from my window the darkness was hiding

We've fallen asleep side to side
as the dawn was rising
After that crazy Dubrovnik's night
Often do I dream a mare in a field

Yet she didn't know that I was a poet
Nor that she could become part of my verse
by entering my room
that Ashik Aysha, at the peak of her best age

That night has gone by, followed by many years
God knows who lives in that room now
Beautiful Aysha I haven't met again
The one thing that left was a poem and a gray paper

When the life loses its coat
And the winter lingers in the soul
When the old age recognizes the end of the road
I'll remember as if it was only yesterday
