Alain Souchon - Allô Maman bobo (English translation)

English translation

Hello mommy, it hurts!

I'm walking alone along the railroad track
There are no projects in my head
I'm kicking a small tin can
There is no hope in my head
I feel bad in the country and in the city as well
Maybe I'm a bit too fragile

(chorus)
Hello mommy, it hurts
Momy, how did you make me, I'm so ugly
Hello mommy, it hurts
Hello mommy, it hurts

While smoking I end up feeling nauseous

I threw up my whole after-school snack
Parties, crazy nights among lucky people
now that I'm in the music hall business
I feel bad on the stage and off it too
Maybe I'm a bit too fragile

(chorus)

What I wanted was leaving a port on a sailboat,
navigating the stars at night
What I wanted was the horses, the revolver and the clowny hat
the beautiful Peggy from the saloon.
I feel bad as a though guy
and as a sweet kid as well
Maybe I'm a bit too dreamy

(chorus)
I'm walking alone along the railroad track
There are no projects in my head
I'm kicking a small tin can
There is no hope in my head
I feel bad in the country and in the city as well
Maybe I'm a bit too fragile

(chorus)

Do whatever you want with my translations. I'm not rich enough to sue you anyway.

Author's comments:

I find conveying the tone of this song rather challenging.

Souchon said he hurt himself falling in a ski resort when he was in his late 20s. He then unthinkingly called his mother to seek comfort, and the irony of the situation gave him the idea of the song.

The song is well known in France as an illustration of derisive self-pity.
