Paola & Chiara - Amici come prima (English translation)

English translation

Let's Be Friends Like Before

I'm sorry
I know that it's just another excuse
I sit by your side
And it's like you weren't here

And you speak
I can't listen to you
But you speak
You ask me to understand you
And it's not easy to say yes

You break my heart in pieces
And expect to
To get away with
'Let's be friends like before'
It costs me a fortune
To admit that
It was only a game
Something unimportant
But I'm in love with you
With you...

It's too late
It's too late to change your mind
I'd like to fill up the emptiness
That now you leave inside me

I get up from this chair
I leave here
I won't turn back as long as you say
'Let's be friends like before'
It costs me a fortune
To admit that
It was only a game
Something unimportant
But I'm in love with you

You break my heart in pieces
And expect to
To get away with
'Let's be friends like before'
It no longer is worth
Considering the fact that
It was only a game
Maybe you had fun
But I love you and I don't even know why
Why...
Why...
Why...

Author's comments:

The song title translates only into 'Friends like before', but I added some further info to add context to the translation - it talks about a break-up, when someone asked the other person in the relationship to be friends, as they used to be before actually dating each other. / Thanks to Hampsicora for providing suggestions of improvements.

Thanks Juan, great translation!
Just two tips:
Un affare da poco > not a big deal / something insignificant
Ti sarai divertito > maybe you had fun (in Italian the future can also express a sense of probability)
