Bastard

Neither one nor the other, I am, I was and I'll remain myself

You're Right-wing or you're Letf-wing?
You're yokel or Parisian bobo?
Either one or the other
You're a man or you perish
Culture or pathetic¹
Feminist or shut up
Either you're macho or homo
But you're phobic or sexual
Miscreant or terrorist
You're long-haired or else you're bearded
Conspiratorist², Illuminati
Mythomaniacist² or sell-out?
Nothing at all or all immediatly
Radically or undecided
Haw, you change your mind idiot?
But you're Hutu or Tutsi?
Fleming or Walloon?
You have dangling arms or you are influential?
Finally you're racist?
But you're white or else brown, eh?

Neither one nor the other
Bastard, you are, you was and you remain it

Neither one nor the other, I am, I was and I'll remain myself (x4)

Ho, sorry, Mister doesn't take sides
Mister isn't racist, seeing that Mister doesn't get attachments
Anyway Mister has a black friend, and an Aryan friend too
It goes right over the mister's head, besides all it, it's useless
It's better to do nothing than to do harm
Hands in the shit or else in the annals
Asshole or else thinking the world revolves around you
Mister think you are the cat's whiskers
Above all not raise hell, have to quiet, eh?
Have to be kind, have to be cuddly
Have to be in on it, have to be hip
To be thought hightly of everywhere, eh?

Neither one nor the other
Bastard, you are, you was and you remain it

Neither one nor the other, I am, I was and I'll remain myself

Neither one nor the other
Bastard, you are, you was and you remain it

Author's comments:

¹ Play on words with the verb "perish" -> puericulture and peripathetic as homophobic/homosexual

² Maybe neologism or else in french we say "conspirateur" not "conspirationniste" and "Mythoman" not "mythomaniste' so I copied.

Pleaaaase, remember the lyrics and its traduction are COMPLETLY FREE, don't ask me the rigths to use them! And don't hesitate to fix my faults !

Thanks SO much for this translation - it is not easy for native English speakers to see all the inferences / references or to know the 'verlan', so I really appreciate your footnotes. I'm going to make some minor changes and share this with my students. If you're interested I'll post the changes here (but I don't want to appear to criticise. . this is so good!)

Ahah There are no problems madam!
Don't hesitate to tell me the mistakes in the text, I will modify.

I love this translation, thanks!

Just a suggestion: "Monsieur" would be better translated as "Mister" rather than "Ser". Mister is frequently used as a generic reference to a man, whereas Sir is almost always used as an honorific. Also, "ser" is spelled "sir."

Also, what is the definition of "Mythoman"?

Lolaska     July 11th, 2014

Hi Paizlea, thanks for your comment!

I chose "Ser" instead of "Mister" because in the french intonation the word "Monsieur" is exaggerated in order to sound like a blame, "Ser" is understandably an "archaïsm" and so, "mister" is too common.
Tell me what do you think about my reading, I changed "ser" in "mister" anyway.

"Un mythoman, a mythomaniac" is someone lying a lot, everytime, for no reasons to the point that it's an obsession/ a disease!
