Weariness

Behind this mirror, who is that
With his / her gaze fixed on mine?
Someone who had been here among the living
And now is gone somewhere, under the Lord's providence
Leaving his gaze confined in my eyes

Who is that, sleeping in my bed, trying to dream my dreams?
Someone has died right here in this bed and now is calling for me
In the distance, blended in my dreams

Whatever it's what I do or not, many others did the very same
And here's the source of my weariness :
To feel that whatever it's what I try* to do,
Many others have tried the very same

Oh thanks, I thought it wasn't that good, I was looking for something to translate and fooling around on Amalia's profile, I just found this pearl with no translation into English, I didn't know this fado and I simply love it :)

I sympathize with your desire to make your translations better, but they far outshine any of the other fado translations as it is. I look for them all the time.

In exchange, if anyone's interested, there's another, utterly hypnotic version of this fado, also sung by Amália, somewhere on YouTube as part of a remastered file of Coracao Independente, disc 1. In fact, both files are well worth listening to.
