Joyce Jonathan - Caractère (English translation)

Character

All begun long ago
In primary class, to be depressed it takes a lot
All begun on the divan
To settle things on, to speak about my father
It requested light-years
To find the origin of my hell

I dream, I close myself in
I know that deep down
Thousands of fights
Burn and hide
All I have lived
Forged my fucking character

We keep in memory only the hitches
Old stories, old grudges
They make our joys derisory
Dark days, armies without armors
I had to be prosaic
To love life without ever being bitter

I dream, I close myself in
I know that deep down
Thousands of fights
Burn and hide
All I have lived
Forged my fucking character

I want that this evening we remember
Our most beautiful moments, our child dreams
It requested light-years
Find the origin of my hell

(X2)
I dream, I close myself in
I know that deep down
Thousands of fights
Burn and hide
All I have lived
Forged my fucking character

Character (X5)

I am only proficient in English, but I think the line, "It requested light-years"/"Il m'a fallu des années lumières" might be, "It required light-years".
Joyce makes me want to learn French! Her music and voice are beautiful and pleasant.

I feel like "fucked up character" or "messed up character" would be more accurate than "fucking character". I think she's saying her character is "foutu", not that her character is busy fucking (or emphasising she hates it).
