He's a bad boy (C'est un mauvais garçon)

English translation

He's a bad boy

We misfits
They don't love us
These great philistines
That swim in joy
You gotta have
To fit their taste
A big fake collar
And a nice fedora
Its not chic, to wear a paper-boy cap
It gives you a rogue impression
And that's why
When a middle-class man sees us
He says while pointing with the finger at us

(Refain)
It's a bad boy
He's showing a style
Thats not very catholic
You gotta fear him
When you meet him at night
He's a mischievous little fella
who loves to loot
thats how you explain
that fist-fight he got into
from head to toe
A bad boy

all the pretty ladies
wearing pearls and diamonds
when they walk past they scorn us
yes but tomorrow
probably tonight
in our tiny cabins (1)
they will come to visit us
they will dance boogie like little girls
roll themselves up on our keels (1b)
and we'll read in their capsized eyes (2)
the confessions they don't dare to utter

(Refain)
It's a bad boy
He's showing a style
Thats not very catholic
You gotta fear him
When you meet him at night
He's a mischievous little fella
who loves to loot
thats how you explain
that fist-fight he got into
from head to toe
A bad boy

(Refain)
It's a bad boy
He's showing a style
Thats not very catholic
You gotta fear him
When you meet him at night
He's a mischievous little fella
who loves to loot
thats how you explain
that fist-fight he got into
from head to toe
A bad boy

Author's comments:

(1) musette - lit. a tiny knapsack or bagpipe
(1b) like aship's keel, the bottommost piece of the ship
(2) this line and the preceding ones use sailor poetry.
basically the women are performing oral love on these
outcasts like overturned ships, looking up to them
like a capsized boat

C'est un mauvais garçon

Nous les paumés
Nous ne sommes pas aimés
Des grands bourgeois
Qui nagent dans la joie
