Hello everyone,

If this topic has been discussed and dealt with earlier, then omit my question.

Why have these categories been named Italian/German etc. Soccer Anthems? Yes, the game can be called both soccer and football, both are correct, but the latter is much more common internationally. The head organisation is called FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association).

Just wondering.

Kirill is right. In USA they use the word soccer to avoid confusion with American football.
But in England, where this game/sport was born, they use football to indicate what is called 'calcio' in Italian.

In Spain, 'fútbol', came right from England.

Grazie Roster! So perhaps it would be better to change the name of these categories...

I'm not ashamed to say that although I live in the US, I have no idea if "American football teams" even have anthems? If not, then I think it should be renamed to "Football". I'll look it up real quick and come back with an answer.

EDIT: Apparently from a quick glance on the internet, there are no anthems in the US for football teams, it's just the same old National anthem that they sing (this includes all sports, even "soccer", how unoriginal). [@lt] Can we go ahead and change the pages that contain "Soccer" to "Football" then?

Q: why have they been called "soccer anthems".
A: i called them that.

if you wanna rename them you gotta rename them all (over a dozen) and also all songs that are hyperlinked so they don't get lost.
i do not recommend that but thats probably what you're gonna do anyway. american sports teams don't have their own category yet but the fight songs of their university sports teams do:

[@petit élève] *lol* Oh man, you just made my day with that (Boy did I need to laugh today). Ah, but in all seriousness I'm changing the pages I made at least to "Football", I'll change them back if there's an issue with it.

EDIT: [@SaintMark] I'm just going to wait on more opinions first, see what people think before making any changes to pages not created by me.

@phantasmagoria

http://www.ussoccer.com/ this is the official site of the movement, with news about United States men's national soccer team. USa have a good team in feminine soccer, too ---> that is always football for English, calcio in Italy,fùtbol in Countries where they use Spanish as national or common language.
USA male soccer team has been eliminated in the qualification phase for World Championship in Russia just these days. It's the first time in the last 34 years.

The name "football" is used in the Summer Olympics.

Perfect! It is another good reason to change the name of the categories in LT.

Actually the pages are not renamed yet. And the thing you mentioned isn't a bug or anything. You may see unfinished transcription requests on every artist page. ( for example. I picked a random artist from transcription requests field)

don't think renaming was a really good move. now the unfinished requests are isolated from their source folders. pictures are missing too.

They are not renamed yet. (Once again.)
