Hallo - I am trying to understand what my favourite singer, Udo Jürgens, is saying when he talks to the audience between songs. In this example, the song being introduced is "....und da hab ich ihr das Leben gerettet".

I believe he's talking about a waltz and what to write about but I would love to have a precise translation. If you can help me - vielen Dank in der Tat!

In German:

Wenn man Österreicher ist und dort geboren ist, dann erwartet man zu Hause von einem, dass man irgendwann im Laufe des Lebens wenigstens den Versuch macht, einmal einen Walzer zu komponieren. Sonst wird man nicht ernstgenommen, das ist also, ja... heutzutage einen Walzer... also was schreibt man da hinein? Donau, Rhein, die großen Ströme, das gibt's alles schon und so weiter. Wasser ist natürlich immer gut, ein Fluss ist immer gut, auch wenn er kleiner ist, ist immer gut, also gut, ich hab mir gedacht, vielleicht "Mitmenschlichkeit", das hab ich im Walzer noch nie gehört, nicht? Mitmenschlichkeit, anderen in der Not beistehen - das hört sich dann bei mir ungefähr so an:
