Raymond Queneau - Nuit (English translation)

French

Nuit

Nuit.

Night

Night: A syllable.
Walls: closed like hexagons.
Night: A syllable.
Autumn: breathless and weary of waiting,
the bees with hearts too tender…
Night: Snake pierced with rainbow ray rings.
The gods intertwined make the arches of the letters
forgotten among many months mute words dance.
Night fires and kills the world
Night fires and changes the world 1
Night fires and the world kicks out 2
Everything seems to disappear, even the agile mountains.
Night.

des lettres oubliées parmi moult mois muets mots. -> did I miss an "among" ?

et le monde rue -> could be "the street world" or "the world kicks (like a horse)" or even "the world turns into a street" or "the world rebels"

Ah yes, that was a pretty chewy sentence - It had an "among" at one point but I rethought it a few times and lost it somewhere along the way...I'm still not sure it makes sense! Regular smile

Think I misread that line as repeating the verb "muer"...I think "kicks out" makes about the most sense. Although it's very open to interpretation isn't it?
