Novi fosili - 3+10 (Tri plus deset) (English translation)

Croatian

3+10 (Tri plus deset)

Tri plus deset lud je broj
Ti si moja, ja sam tvoj.

Na vrh brda vrba mrda
Ziva riba repom siba
Voda pljuska po bazenu
Trava travi na terenu.

Mlazno lete avioni
Mlazno zvonik zvonom zvoni
Ispeci mi pa mi reci
Reci, reci ne poreci.

Tri plus deset lud je broj
Ti si moja, ja sam tvoj.

Rice vocic u docicu
Cavka cavce na kocicu
Zezno zeze zezazoni
I klokocu klokotoni.

Bijeli jeti snijegom leti
Ronac roni, setac seti
Ispeci mi pa mi reci
Reci, reci ne poreci.

Tri plus deset lud je broj
Ti si moja, ja sam tvoj.

3 + 10 (Three plus ten)

Versions: #1#2
Three plus ten, that number is crazy
You are mine, I'm your daisy.1

Peter Piper picks a peck of pickled peppers2
Alive fish makes its tail swish
Around the pool, the water is splashing
On the court, the grass is grassing.

Jetily fly the airplanes
Jetily the bell-tower with its bell it bells
Think before you say3
Say, say, don't unsay.

Three plus ten, that number is crazy
You are mine, I'm your daisy.

Roars a little ox4 in a little valley
A jackdaw jack-jacks in a little alley5
Jokily joke the jokesters
And seethe the seethers

The white Yeti through the snow is flying
Walker is walking, a common merganser is diving, 6
Think before you say
Say, say, don't unsay.

Three plus ten, that number is crazy
You are mine, I'm your daisy.

  • 1. The original text: "You are mine, I am yours." "Daisy" is added for rhyming purpose.
  • 2. literally: On the top of a hill a willow wiggles, a popular Croatian and Serbian tongue twister, difficult because of consonant clutters characteristic for Slavic languages
  • 3. literally: bake to me then say to me, from Croatian proverb "ispeci pa reci" (first bake then say), meaning one should think before he speaks
  • 4. vočić - Serbian, a deminutive of "vo" (ox). In Croatian, the word is "vol" and its deminutive is "volić"
  • 5. in the original text: on a little picket
  • 6. in the original text, a standard form "šeta" (he/she/it walks) is replaced with incorrect form "šeti" to rhyme with "leti" (flies). In the translation, the two clauses are inversed to achieve the same effect.

Author's comments:

This song is all about rhymes and sounds, and it's playing with them a lot. Some standard words are slightly changed, and some are made up to achieve sound repetition. I tried to make the English translation as playful. I hope I succeeded. Regular smile

Thank you!  Heart Now I'm so glad I was a slave to my perfectionism and was editing this until I was completely satisfied with the result.  :D

Very nice job. Both the lyrics and the footnotes are a joy to read.

Looking at a job done with time and care is a pleasure in itself. Or so I think.
