Jorge de la Vega - Diamantes en Almibar (English translation)

Spanish

Diamantes en Almibar

Yo engrasaba mis aviones
con caviares de ultramar
tú planeabas otro viaje
de París a Pakistán.
Yo agregaba dependencias
a nuestro último “palais”
tú estropeabas tus chinchillas
con extractos de “lanvin”.

Y, al volver,
bajaremos media horita en Acapulco,
tú enjuagarás tus joyas en el mar
mientras yo me fumo un puro
y, tal vez,
tomaremos un tecito en la riviera
o comeremos en La Tour d’Argent
una cosita ligera.

Tú guisabas esmeraldas
en sahumerios del Irak,
yo exploraba mis chequeras
en tractores Cadillac.
Tú ibas de lo de Rainiero
a lo de Paca Borbón,
yo vacunaba el ganado
con petróleo “on the rocks”.

Diamonds in syrup

I was greasing my airplanes
with overseas caviar
you were planning another trip
from Paris to Pakistan.
I was adding dependencies
to out latest palais
you were messing your chinchillas
with lanvin extracts.

And in the way back
we'll get down for half hour in Acapulco,
you'll wash your jewels in the sea
while I smoke a cigar
and maybe,
we'll drink tea at the Riviera
or we'll eat at the Tour d’Argent
some light thing.

You were cooking emeralds
in Irak cleansings,
I was exploring my check books
in Cadillac tractors.
You were going from Rainier's
to Paca Borbón's,
I was vaccinating the stock
with oil on the rocks.

And in the way back
we'll get down for a while in San Francisco
and with the hippies who are lovely
we'll smoke a joint,
and maybe,
we'll chip in at Montecarlo
or we'll have a snack at the Partenon
laying in the grass.

Madonna lilly snacks,
Mink with mikado mocha
Melba cup with diamonds,
scheduled safari,
turquoise elephants,
pear oyster with lemon,
the millions of orofino,
the great neon fight.

And in the way back
we'll donate monsignors and teachers,
wisemen, artists and some iron lung
to avoid taxes.
Now you see,
how simple is to be happy if you get used to
the little the luck gave to you
and you are okay with that.
