Els tres tambors

Si n'eren tres tambors;
venien de la guerra
i, el més petit de tots,
duia un ram de roselles.
Ram, ram, ram, pataplam!
Duia un ram de roselles.

La filla del bon rei
ja en surt, a la finestra:
- «Tambor, mon bon tambor,
doneu-me una rosella!»
Ram, ram, ram pataplam!
«Doneu-me una rosella!»

- «Donzella qui l'haurà
serà l'esposa meva:
no us donc jo pas el ram
que a vós no us pugui prendre.»
Ram, ram, ram pataplam!
«Que a vós no us pugui prendre.»

-«M'haureu de demanar
al peire i a la meire;
Si ells m'us voldran donar,
per mi res no es pot perdre.»
Ram, ram, ra, pataplam!
«Per mi res no es pot perdre.»

El tambor se'n va anar
amb el rei i amb la reina.
- «Déu vos guard, rei francès:
pretenc vostra filleta!»
Ram, ram, ram pataplam!
«Pretenc vostra filleta!»

- «Eixiu d'ací, tambor,
abans no us faci pendre!»
- «No em fareu pendre vós,
ni cap d'aquesta terra»
Ram, ram, ram pataplam!
«Ni cap d'aquesta terra»

- «Car'llà dins mon país
hi tinc gent que em defensa.»
- «Digues, digues, tambor:
qui n'és, doncs, el teu peire?»
Ram, ram, ram pataplam!
«Qui n'és, doncs, el teu peire?»

- «El meu peire és el rei
de tota l'Anglaterra.»
- «Veniu, veniu tambor,
que us daré ma filleta!»
Ram, ram, ram pataplam!
«Que us daré ma filleta!»

- «No en sóc pas grat, de vós,
ni pas en sóc grat d'ella:
que enllà dins mon país
se'n veuen de pus belles!»
Ram, ram, ram pataplam!
«Se'n veuen de pus belles!»

The Three Drummers

Once upon a time, there were three drummers;
They were coming back from war
And the youngest among them
Was carrying a little bouquet of poppy blossoms.
Rom, ro-po-pom-pom!
He was carrying a little bouquet of poppy blossoms.

The good king's daughter
Comes out to her window:
- "Drummer, my kind drummer,
Give me a poppy blossom!"
Rom, ro-po-pom-pom!
"Give me a poppy blossom!"

- "The damsel who gets it
Shall become my wife:
I am not giving you the bouquet
Unless I can marry you".
Rom, ro-po-pom-pom!
"Unless I can marry you"

- "You will have to ask my father and mother
For my hand in marriage;
If they want me to marry you,
Everything's fine, as far as I'm concerned"
Rom, ro-po-pom-pom!
"Everything's fine, as far as I'm concerned"

So, the drummer went
To find the king and his queen:
- "May God keep you, King of France:
I want to marry your dear daughter!"
Rom, ro-po-pom-pom!
"I want to marry your dear daughter!"

- "Get you gone, drummer,
Before I have you arrested!"
- "You shall not arrest me,
And neither will anyone from this land"
Rom, ro-po-pom-pom!
"And neither will anyone from this land"

- "For there, in my country,
There are people who will defend me!"
- "Tell me, oh drummer:
Who is, then, your father?"
Rom, ro-po-pom-pom!
"Who is, then, your father?"

- "My father is the king
Of all of England"
- "Come forth, come forth, oh drummer,
For you shall have my daughter!"
Rom, ro-po-pom-pom!
"For you shall have my daughter!"

- "I do not like you at all,
And I don't like your daughter, either:
For there, in my homeland,
Much more beautiful girls can be found!"
Rom, ro-po-pom-pom!
"Much more beautiful girls can be found!"
