The Naʼvi language is the constructed language of the Naʼvi, the sapienthumanoid indigenous inhabitants of the fictional moon Pandora in the 2009 film Avatar. It was created by Paul Frommer, a professor at the USC Marshall School of Business with a doctorate in linguistics. Naʼvi was designed to fit James Cameron's conception of what the language should sound like in the film, to be realistically learnable by the fictional human characters of the film, and to be pronounceable by the actors, but to not closely resemble any single human language.

When the film was released in 2009, Naʼvi had a growing vocabulary of about a thousand words, but understanding of its grammar was limited to the language's creator. However, this has changed subsequently as Frommer has expanded the lexicon to more than 2200 words and has published the grammar, thus making Naʼvi a relatively complete, learnable and serviceable language. Are you interested in fictional languages? Do you think Na'vi should also be incorporated into LT?

If there are songs *in* the Na'vi language that are able to be translated, then yes. Otherwise, it's an interesting bit of trivia.

Actually, yes, there are quite a few of them the translation of which can be found online. I was about to add a few, when I saw the Na'vi language did not exist on LT.

But, then again, songs can also be translated to Na'vi since it is a language on its own with actual speakers, however surprising it may sound. However, we still have not seen a Na'vi speaker on LT, that'd be an interesting addition.

Does anyone actually speak the language, though?

As I said, it is a constructed language meaning there are no native speakers, of course. But, yes, fans of the movie Avatar have actually learned the language with relative fluency.

We can add Na'Vi as a language if there are songs in it and translations from (or even into) it. We just don't add languages that are completely made up and have no real meaning (or that can't be translated or understood at all). That's why, for instance, we have Dragon, Dothraki and Loxian, but not Cirquish (alleged Cirque du Soleil language).

That does make sense. I just wanted to get the members' opinion before messaging the Admins.

The Na'vi language has been added.
