losing LT contents undeservedly

last week, in the slavic forum we had been discussing [1] about some lyrics we lost here because of an artist's request (the forum is about the azra's lyrics vanishing [2]).

that's fair, any artist owns his songs and there is little we can do about that.
but another different thing is the translations we users added, which are our contribution to this site. removing the lyrics an artist wants to have removed is one thing, removing our translations is another different issue.

i thing we have the right to keep those translations regardless the fact of having had the original lyrics removed because of rights issues, and i suggest to create a kind of 'vault' or limbo where storing those translations even if the source lyrics are missing.

what do you think about?

I agree with you, but how could we find our lost translations?

It's possible only from the private back-up copies

What about just blanking the original lyrics (with a "Deleted by request" notice), leaving the translations?

I've suggested that too, a while ago.

At least we should make a backup of the translations (perhaps in a thread in the mod's subforum) so the translators can get their translations back when they ask for them.

I thought everything had a backup on LT's server? Because I've accidentally deleted a song or translation before and they've been able to recover it.
