Please help
Thank you for responding & guiding me to this page ... with fingers crossed, hopefully we ( w/ my sisters) can finally sing our favorite song, our parents sang to us in our youth, in Spanish. After 13 years we are reuniting this July. I've searched & searched to no avail. I copied & pasted my original post to your site a few days ago, again my sincere gratitude €;)
I need to find the Spanish version or translation of the refrain (all we need)
"After The Ball Is Over" (Charles K Harris)
Popularized by Sousa:
"After the ball is over
After the break of morn
After the dancers' leaving
After the stars are gone
Many a heart is aching
If you could read them all
Many the hopes that have vanished
After the ball." ...
Refrain of a much longer of the Gay Nineties block buster song "After the Ball ....by Foster &
Allen or Charles K Harris, sang to us my our parents. The last relative has
passed on & we have no one remembers the whole verse. I have exhausted all the possible venues
to inquire to no avail. I made an effort to translate but didn't fit right
to the melody. Please help us ... our memory (siblings as well as nieces &
nephews) of this much beloved song couldn't complete the entire verse.
Please kindly help ... I'll be so indebted ... heartfelt thanks!!!
Ditas

Unfortunally I had never heard this song before so I do not know if the spanish version is translated literaly
so the only thing I can do is to translate the paragraph for you:
Despues de que el vaile termina
Despues del amanecer
Despues de que los bailarines se marchan
Despues de que las estrellas se han ido
muchos corazones yacen dolientes
Si pudieses leerles todos
muchas espectativas se desvanecen
Despues de que el vaile termina
Have you tried looking for the song in some of the other romance languages (Italian, French or Portuguese)?
sometimes a song stars in one of these languages and is hand down to the rest. By the time you get the song in a specific language the lyrics are completely different.
I could force the tranlation into the melody keeping the general idea but that would not be a true translation.
I hope you have luck and hope I helped a bit
