Meaning of unclear or ambiguous song texts

Hi, songs are usually short, often poetic lyrics, which are not always clear. Would anyone of you discuss what is really meant, or what could be associated with such a text or image?
As a first theme, I would like to propose the following song by Sophie Hunger:
http://lyricstranslate.com/en/Sophie-Hunger-Sad-Fisherman-lyrics.html

What is sinking here: the hell or the road? How is this sentence (with the hell) to explain?
Any association of Helsinki, hell and running? Regardless of the wordplay Helsinki-Hell sinking...
What is the fisherman doing here and why is he sad?

That seems like a rather easy one.
He is sad because most of life isn't all happy, and so the solution the text proposes is one more typically found in partying songs: Forget tomorrow and live for this one hour so that the hell as which the other hours are perceived slip out of sight.
Hell is sinking both to allow for the wordplay and because it's associated with being down anyway.
Which road are you referring to?

Btw, the video is of a different song.
And the lyrics here are much longer: https://genius.com/Sophie-hunger-sad-fisherman-lyrics
and show that it's about a relationship.

Often the most unclear are lyrics which use metaphors/symbols unknown.
If you allow me to hijack your thread (not to call an end the discussion of your song), as next candidate for discussion I propose the following song by Meinhard:
http://lyricstranslate.com/en/meinhard-sun-sign-lyrics.html
While I have an idea about the general meaning of the song, I'd like to hear what someone else thinks it's about before telling.
Does anyone have a clue what's meant by the sun sign of the title?
Or what do you think he means by "eight colours"? I know one fitting context, but it's a bit niche, and so I don't know whether the artist ever heard of it let alone refers to it.

Thank you, Sciera, for answering. The lyrics are really incomplete on LT, I've reported it allready.

Sun sign (symbol for sun) I automatically thought of the actual symbol for sun: http://bergentango.no/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/sol.png

While he's asleep and nothing can stir him awake, they either a) lit. paint a sun symbol on his forehead or b) put into his mind the symbol of the sun and what it represents = light.

Followed by the second verse: (The sun is now in his mind, the light is there)
Illuminate me shining brightly,
leave me blind and irritated
Burn your way right through my dreams,
driving me insane, it seems

The eight colors to me was this "the eight colors of magic": http://numbertwocollective.blogspot.com/2012/09/thee-eight-magiks-by-pet...

Isn't the actual symbol rather this? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alchemical_symbol#/media/File:Sun_symbol.svg
That would also be easier to draw xD

Thanks, so far so clear. Just, who does this and why?
Well, my theory is that it's not about any truly external being (as implied by " Nothing stirs me from my slumber,/Nothing ends my dream"), but about his guardian angel or higher self (or whatever that concept is called in the artist's worldview) visiting him in his sleep and helping him in a not always pleasant manner by making changes to his psyche.
Since the artist mentioned in interviews that he considers alchemy as a metaphor for dealing with everyday life (not the most uncommon interpretation of it) I can't tell how literal anything is meant in there.

That's what I assumed as well. Good to know it's commonly known enough that it's likely to be meant here, else I would have been at a loss what it means instead. In these esoteric topics I'm never too sure whether a concept is general knowledge or just the personal system of someone or a small group.
And it's a very modern concept, whereas the alchemical metaphors this artist often uses are normally many centuries old.

In which way did you report it? I see no comment in the report thread nor under the lyrics.
In any case, I've updated the lyrics now myself. I found no YT video containing the actual song, so I've simply removed the video attached.
The song can be listened to on Deezer and so I could confirm that those longer lyrics are actually the correct ones.

Yes, that's the one.

Maybe it's not an actual someone, but himself who does this in his sleep. Sorta like how we can sometimes solve problems in real life by dreaming of them when we're asleep. Maybe it was some subconscious part of his mind trying to help him, and it created a representation of the "sun" to illuminate him.

Still not entirely sure why the sun is given that much prominence in the text, but it's a topic in which symbols can mean a different thing for every single person, so he only himself can tell why.
At least it does fit the image of being purifying described by both illumination and burning.

That at least would be a valid psychological interpretation of "higher self" etc. or whatever he's describing. Dunno where on the psychological vs. spiritual scale that artist is; the interviews sound like he's seeing it purely psychological, it's just the metaphors he uses that give a different first impression, and that makes the interpretation not so straightforward.

I marked the song as one with broken lyrics in the form, that Is under each lyrics.

That goes to a rather new feature and I'm not sure how often one of us looks into that list.

Therefore, if it should go faster, either ask a mod or editor directly, or use this thread: http://lyricstranslate.com/en/forum/incorrect-information-lyricstitleson...

I think she is misinterpreting the expression "Hell sinking WAY out of sight".

You're right; now I see what was misunderstood.

"Hell sinking way out of sight"
=
"The negative stuff is returning to whence it came away from me to a place far away where I can't see it anymore."

Let's pretend today had only this hour
And the months they had only tonight
No before and no after
The clapping, the laughter
Hell sinking way out of sight
Helsinki - running for life

I have followed the discussion with interest and take it that the last verse is the one that is in quesiton here. And yes, to me it is also the reminder to live today and enjoy the moment as nobody knows what will be tomorrow. To enjoy the moment is the remedy against "Hell" that may come upon us any moment.
The last line Helsinki - running for life I think the reference to Helsinki is the reference to an incident believed a terrorist attac where a car drove into a crowd hurting 7 people. As I am not sure when this song was wirtten, I might be right or wrong

It was written 2006; that terrorist attack was 2016, so no. But there was another one in 2002: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myyrmanni_bombing
I can't rule it out, but who knows. Would probably help to look at the other lyrics of the artist to see if it's a recurring theme.
