it would be wonderful if someone could translate this song to english for me. i really love this song but have no idea what it's about. here are the lyrics in french:

Marie Carmen :

Qui me dirait vient
Un homme qui viendrait de loin
Et qui me dirait vient
Mais qui ne saurait rien
De ma vie avant lui
Une femme... ad lib

thank you very much in advance

Well here's my try (it will be ugly, but it's for the better : the meaning lol)

I was looking for somewhere to hang my skin
I was hoping I would find on my way
A woman in front of whom I would take my hat off
A lady that would wish me well.

Marie Carmen :
I was haphazardly waiting for the last chance for love
A man that would come from far away
And that would take me away in the middle of a dance
And who would turn my destiny around.

Murray Head :
When I pushed the door of this underground bar
Where nights are longer than days
I met your lonesome look in a corner
A look yelling 'help'
A woman who would wish me well
Who would not ask anything, not even where I came from
Nor even who I am.

Marie Carmen :
A man who would come from far away
Who wouldn't know anything of my life before him.

Murray Head :
On a night of departure, everything seems possible.
When the light of the morning fades,
What you would have sworn both hands on the Bible
Suddenly seems uncertain.

Marie Carmen :
You, who came from nowhere,
What are you looking for in me?
The virgin, the woman, the whore?
I am afraid it is too late
To kiss goodbye
Our weird lives
That won't go anywhere.

Murray Head :
A woman that would wish me well
Who would not ask anything, not even where I came from
Nor even who I am.

Marie Carmen :
A man who would come from far away
And who would not know anything of my life
Of my life before him.

Murray Head :
My life against your life in the balance.
What are we losing?
And what are we winning,
In both ways.

A man who would come from far away
Who would tell me 'come'
A man who would come from far away
And who would tell me 'come'
But who would not know
Anything of my life before him.
A woman... ad lib.

Hope this helps Smiling Feel free to ask anything if there is a misunderstanding Smiling

I took a stab, too:

I’m looking for somewhere to rest my head
I hope to find my way
A woman to whom I’d tip my hat
A woman who would wish me well

Marie Carmen:
I’m waiting for luck to bring me my last hope man.
A man from far away
Who’d bring me to the dance floor
And turn around my destiny

Murray:
When I walked in to this clandestine bar
Where the nights were longer than the days
I met your lonely gaze in a corner
I look that cried “help me”
A woman who’d wish me well
Who wouldn’t ask anything of me, not even where I came from
Nor even who I am

Marie Carmen:
A man from far away
Who wouldn’t know about my life, before him

Murray Head:
The night you leave everything seems possible
When the light of the morning falls
What we swore with two hands on the bible
Suddenly seems uncertain

Marie Carmen:
You who come from nowhere
What do you want me to be
The virgin, the wife, the whore
I’m afraid it’s too late
To cast off
Our crazy lives
That have no future

……
Murray Head:
My life and your life in the balance
What do we have to lose
And what do we have to win
In both ways

A man from away
Who tells me to come
A man from away
And tells me to come
But who knows nothing
Of my life before him

Thank you to both, i really appreciate the attempts, and I think you both atleast (if not exactly) gave me the gist of the lyrics. Thank you for taking you're time to help me out.
