Zhanna Rozhdestvenskaya - Gadalka (Гадалка) (English translation)

English translation

A Fortune Teller

Fashions change almost daily with no plan,
But as long as the world still goes on,
Gypsy lady with old deck of cards can
Find at least one more client to con.

When, expecting impossible wonders,
Someone'll knock on her door anyday,
And she'll spread out her cards as she blunders,
Telling fortunes of noble kings' play.

What's there to say, what's there to say...
The people are like moochers,
They wish to know what happens next,
They want to know the future.

What's to say, what's there to say!
The people are like moochers,
They wish to know what happens next,
They want to know the future!

Old card deck will predict happy lifetime,
As well as unexpected death-blow,
GI house, a long travel sometime,
And the love till the last deathbed sough.

The old cards will spread out like a slipped sheaf
On a shawl with elaborate fringe,
And the gypsy herself will believe in
Fortunes that her own noble kings bring.

What's there to say, what's there to say...
The people are like moochers,
They wish to know what happens next,
They want to know the future.

What's to say, what's there to say!
The people are like moochers,
They wish to know what happens next,
They want to know the future!

Cruel time topples castles from granite,
And it covers the cities with sand,
But for cards in the hands of the gypsy
Years mean nothing at all beforehand.

Heart is thrilled when one heeds fortune tellers,
And at every crossroad of the Earth,
Never changing their facial expressions,
Noble kings lie to all since their birth!

What's there to say, what's there to say...
The people are like moochers,
They wish to know what happens next,
They want to know the future.

What's to say, what's there to say!
The people are like moochers,
They wish to know what happens next,
They want to know the future!
