Yuri Entin - Gde Musika Beret Nachalo (Где музыка берет начало) (English translation)

Russian

Gde Musika Beret Nachalo (Где музыка берет начало)

English translation

Where is music born?

Where might music be born,
where is the first note born?
In the mountains, an echo answered me
In the mountains, an echo answered me
with its solemn sunrise,
with its solemn sunrise.

Where might music be born,
where is the spring of its life?
In the forests, a bird cried out
In the forests, a bird cried out
the first bars of a musical score,
the first bars of a musical score.

Where might music be born,
where was the muse of singing born?
In the seas, near an old peir,
In the seas, near an old pier,
a wave made me this response,
a wave made me this response:

Where might music be born,
in which lands did it rise?
In the lands where your childhood ended,
In the lands where your childhood ended,
In the lands where you left a trail,
In the lands where you left a trail,

In the lands where you left your mark1,
In the lands where you left your mark,

  • 1. "след" can mean both "trail" and "mark"

Wow this is a pretty song, I click on it because the your translated title "Where is music born?" caught me eye. Are there more songs like this?

I translated a few other songs of his. He seems to have worked for children TV shows or movies a lot.
I find this one not bad at all, though the rift between Soviet optimistic take on the future and our gloomy 21th century makes it really sound like something from another era!

Where might be music born = > 'be' should be placed after 'music' => Where might music be born
