Nolwenn Leroy - Gemme (English translation)

English translation

Gem

We dreamt
of unreal things,
of jewels under the stones,
of nuggets
in river beds.
Under our crystal
skulls,
ghosts of illusions
were obscuring
oblivion and evil.

As for me, I want to seek
As for me, I want to dig,
to find under the soil,
to find under the flesh
these rainbow-hued gems
rainbow-hued, rainbow-hued.
If my heart is pure,
if I am filled with wonder,
I will find for sure
these gems,
these rainbow-hued gems,
eternal immortal beings.

We held
under our Eritrean skins
a ruby in the rough,
throbing
in its cage.

As for me, I want to seek
As for me, I want to dig,
to find under the soil,
to find under the flesh
these rainbow-hued gems
rainbow-hued, rainbow-hued.
If my heart is pure,
if I am filled with wonder,
I will find for sure
these gems,
these rainbow-hued gems,
eternal immortal beings.

As for me, I want to seek
As for me, I want to dig
and find these gems,
and the one I love,
not so far away from the sky,
here on earth,
in my flesh.

As for me, I want to seek
As for me, I want to dig,
to find under the soil,
to find under the flesh
these rainbow-hued gems
rainbow-hued, rainbow-hued.
If my heart is pure,
if I am filled with wonder,
I will find for sure
these gems,
these rainbow-hued gems,
eternal immortal beings.

Author's comments:

Mmm... Not sure I got what she meant there. The French is open to a few interpretations.

"Crystal" in this one too. :-)

Shall me heart be pure, shall I be filled... not sure why you've gone with "shall" here. Rather just "If my heart be pure" etc

throbbing takes two b's

French crystal is nicer, that's why Regular smile

Well I tried to make it sound a bit grandiloquent like the original, to no avail apparently
