Facundo Cabral - Levantate y anda (English translation)

Spanish

Levantate y anda

Get Up And Get Going

Get up and get going. Leave the bed where you sleep alongside the crowds, and go walk by yourself; that is to say, for the sake of the only thing that's true, meaning life. And then, when you are awake you will bless all others with your joy.
Abandon parasitic spectatorship, and enter the playing field to play your game. Stop complicating your life, and complicating in general. Stop for a while, and you will find that the meaning of life lies in itself.
You can call each thing by the name you want, but everything—primarily what we do not even see, what we do not even imagine—makes up this luminous mystery that we call life.
Things are many, but reality is one. Open yourself! Take heart! Learn from everything, but first of all from yourself. Concentrate on this, and you will become full of light, and that peaceful joy will take you from stadium to stadium, and ever in an upward direction, spiritually, intellectually, and materially--singing, dancing, and loving.
Joy makes you wise, not questions. Since when does a theater play have the right to ask the author questions?
You just need to realize that you are part of the universe, and then you will be, for yourself and for others, a constant inspiration. You'll be free from all you experience; therefore, your living will become an art. And, in the deepest part of you is the root of so much beauty; only if it begins inside of you, can each action become a totality. Therefore, do not ask for more, but live more. That is the secret to richness; for that reason, you must not follow anyone like an orphan would. Rather, you should follow yourself as a man, and then you will understand that in order to live better, you must be better.

Empty yourself out constantly, attentive to the moment, so that new things will be constant; that is to say, you will become richer constantly, and so your spirit will fly. Empty yourself from the past, and you will become full of the present, which is always rich if you live it without preconceptions.
Inside the past you close yourself off to be with that which is dead; it is a wall that separates you from that which is living. Empty yourself from the past, and you will become a child again; that is to say, a being who is open to everything, receptive, and therefore inside a constant game. And the child is light because he is free from memories and experiences. This is because he doesn't know anything, in the same way that the old man cannot move because he knows too much, remembers too much, because his experiences chain him to preconceptions that deprive him of novelties. And in that, there is no present, and for that reason there is no life, because life is in the now.
The old voices inside of you do not let you hear the new voices that come to you from outside, where the present is, and the present is all that there is. Only when there is internal silence can external voices be heard. Only in quietness can you discover that the grass, that is to say life, grows constantly, and that you are part of that evolution, even when you do nothing. And you only have to give of yourself to be conscious of this doing without a doer, and then your spontaneity will refresh itself.

The ego is the past, and therefore it is old, and it makes everything heavy. Ego is the memory of what is no more, and therefore it deprives you of spontaneity; that is to say, of audacity, that is to say of a childlike state. Ego makes you feel the suicidal illusion that you are something apart. That is to say, it blinds you, impoverishes you, makes you cold, and in that state you suffer from loneliness, instead of enjoying it. The more you know, the more paralyzed you will become; you won’t live, you will only answer from your place of knowledge. That is to say, you will answer in a mechanical fashion, and only to that which is in front of you, and not to life, and only because of reason and not clarity.
