Hénin Beaumont

I've lived here for 30 years
Like my parents and their own,
Those who, yesteryear, took from the mine
Some coal in their sweat.
I come from the north of the Hexagon*,
We're sunday, it's 8pm.
It's my land since I'm a child
But now I'm ashamed to be a postman here.

However, it had a beautiful name,
My city of Hénin-Beaumont.
But, given the hate in its votes,
I move.
However, it had a beautiful name,
My city of Hénin-Beaumont.
But, given the hate in its votes,
I move.
I move.

Under this land of slaughter,
I think about my grandfather :
He's probably turning in his grave,
Given that he cannot move houses.
I prefer him to stay in the dark,
Like his nails were in the mine,
And I'm not sure he would like to see Marine's last name**

However, it had a beautiful name,
My city of Hénin-Beaumont.
But, given the hate in its neighbourhood,
I move.
However, it had a beautiful name,
My city of Hénin-Beaumont.
But, given the hate in its neighbourhood,
I move.
I move.

I'm nothing more than a little postman
Who goes in the market on tuesdays
And who is pretty observer :
When I blink I photograph.
And when I salute you,
While handing your letters, your bills,
I know that there's a 1/2 chance you voted for a swine.***

However, it had a beautiful name,
My city of Hénin-Beaumont.
But, given the hate in its faces,
I move.
However, it had a beautiful name,
My city of Hénin-Beaumont.
But, given the hate in its faces,
I move.
I move.

I've lived here for 30 years
And I didn't think it was possible.
As if the 20% unemployment
Made the idiocy transmissble.
The baker, the workers
And even the immigrants too :
As if shooting yourself in the foot made you run faster
Of course !

However, it had a beautiful name,
My city of Hénin-Beaumont.
But, given the hate isn't caged anymore
I move.
However, it had a beautiful name,
My city of Hénin-Beaumont.
Like everything that's gross
So I'm out of here
And I'll take my convictions back
At the next elections,
For the mayor's front to clear off
And move.

Author's comments:

Hénin-Beaumont is french city, located in northern-France, known for its ex-coal mines, in which the mayor is from a nationalist-far-right political movement.
*L'Hexagone is how french people define France, since it's what it looks like from a geometrical point of view.
** Ok, french-political-history class there. This Marine is Marine Lepen, daughter of Jean-Marie Lepen, french political protagonist, far-right nationalist. Lepen is known for his party "Front National" (FN) founded in 1972. His focuses on immigration themes, death penalty (for its reintroduction in France, stopped in 1982), euroscepticism. This man made a lot a controversies, especially with nazi gaz chamber, racist insults... His daughter, Marine, heads the FN party since 2011. She was the principal opponent of this 2017 french election, against the actuel president Emmanuel Macron (LREM party "La République En Marche").
***FN party won the Hénin-Beaumont mayor election at 50,2% in 2014.
