Manhattan Skyline lyrics

English

Manhattan Skyline

We sit and watch umbrellas fly,
I'm trying to keep my newspaper dry.
I hear myself say:
"My boat's leaving now",
So we shake hands and cry.

Now I must wave goodbye, wave goodbye,
Wave goodbye, wave goodbye,
Wave goodbye, wave goodbye.

You know
I don't wanna cry again,
Don't wanna cry again,
I don't wanna say goodbye,
Don't wanna cry again,
I don't wanna run away,
I don't wanna race this pain.
I'll never see your face again.

Oh, but how,
How can you say
That I didn't try?
No!

I leave to their goodbyes;
I've come to depend on the look in their eyes.
My blood's sweet with pain (?)*;
The wind and the rain bring back words of a song.

And they say: wave goodbye, wave goodbye,
Wave goodbye, wave goodbye,
Wave goodbye, wave goodbye.

You know
I don't wanna fall again,
I don't wanna know this pain,
I don't want another friend,
I don't wanna cry again,
I never wanna see you hurt.
Don't let me see you hurt.
I don't wanna cry again.
I'll never see your face again.

How can you say
That I didn't try?
You know I did!
I don’t want to cry again

So I read to myself:
„A chance of a lifetime to see new horizons”.
On the front page
A black and white picture
Of Manhattan skyline.

Submitter's comments:

I've checked lyrics on several different pages to possibly eliminate small errors that seem to be repeated everywhere. I've tried to detect them and modify the lyrics accordingly. If you think there's something missing or some errors remain, please let me know.

Some errors corrected

Azalia     March 14th, 2017

It would be helpful if you could specify the corrected errors. I've found no corrections except one additional line break and deletion of brackets in one place. Please let me know if you think anything else needs correction.
Plus, logically, if you think that there should be a line break before "Now I must wave goodbye...", there should be one also before "And they say: wave goodbye...", otherwise I see no sense in changing one and leaving the other as is. I'll make the second line break as well.

Sorry but I have corrected so many lyrics that I am not able to remember any single correction.
If you find something I did wrong feel free to tell me - or even better correct it without telling me.
Both we are not the owners of these lyrics.

Hi Geli, as I mentioned above: I added one more line break to make the text look aligned logically. I remember that at the moment of publishing the song I also detected a lot of errors in the original lyrics that I tried to correct after listening to the song several times. I hope I corrected if not all, then at least most of them.

I think there weren't many errors left. I did not mean to criticize you at all.
Smile

Azalia     March 14th, 2017

Don't worry, I didn't feel criticized. I just couldn't identify the "errors" and I was wondering if I overlooked something (which could always happen) and if yes, where and what I should correct. Don't hesitate to "criticize" me again Big smile

Wink

Coopysnoopy     March 20th, 2017

I think they sing "I don't wanna" instead of "I don't want to". Agree?

Azalia     March 20th, 2017

Yes, I think so, although Morten's pronunciation is not very clear sometimes. On the other hand, he definitely does not sing "I never want to see you hurt". He sings (surprise, surprise! Laughing out loud ) "I don't wanna see you hurt" and this is what I translated into Polish. I don't wanna Wink meddle with your corrections, so I'm just humbly asking you to make this one. Happy spring to you, Geli!

Morten also sings "brings back words".
Big smile

Azalia     March 21st, 2017

... which I think is wrong, taking into consideration "the wind and the rain". But you are right, I also hear this, so please correct it if you wish.

Coopysnoopy     March 21st, 2017

Im not sure about "my blood's sweet with pain"...

Coopysnoopy     March 21st, 2017

Some sources say "sweet for pain". What do you think?

Azalia     March 21st, 2017

Geli, if you insist on changing the lyrics according to what you find on the Internet (where one lyrics page copies errors from another one), then I can only sigh. Yes, I remember "blood sweet with pain", but I think it's rather "...filled with pain" and that's what I posted and that's what I translated. Of course I might be wrong as well, but then it doesn't make much sense to ask me for an opinion. Why? I repeat what I had written: when I was posting the song, I tried to double-check the lyrics and correct what I thought was wrong. If you want to "correct back" everything to the "Internet version", just go ahead. If you ask what I think... I think the correct was what I posted, but I admit I'm not always sure of the correctness of what I hear. I'm not a native speaker - that's one thing; another thing is the pronunciation of Morten Harket, which at times is a bit inarticulate.

Coopysnoopy     March 21st, 2017

He definitely doesn't sing "filled with pain". Listen again.
You may write what you like but I am not convinced.
And I don't copy from the Internet without listenting - I just compare and check out.
But anyway.

Azalia     March 21st, 2017

I'm not convinced by neither and frankly, I'm tired of listening to the same song over and over again. Just please change into what you think is right and let's finish this discussion. I don't think I can contribute anything more here, sorry...

* so I ask anybody else: any suggestions? Booklets or something?
