Manhattan Skyline lyrics

We sit and watch umbrellas fly
I'm trying to keep my newspaper dry
I hear myself say,
'My boat's leaving now'
...so we shake hands and cry
Now I must wave goodbye
Wave goodbye

You know
I don't want to cry again
I don't want to cry again
Don't want to say goodbye
I don't want to cry again
I don't want to run away
Don't want to race this pain
I'll never see your face again

Oh but how
How can you say
that I didn't try...
You see things in the dephts of my eyes
that my love's run dry
No...

We leave to their good-byes
I've come to depend on the look in their eyes
My blood's sweet for pain
The wind and the rain bring back words of a song
And they say: wave goodbye
Wave goodbye

But you know
I don't want to fall again
Don't want to know this pain
Don't want another friend
Don't want to try again
Don't want to see you hurt
Don't let me see you hurt
I don't want to cry again
I'll never see your face again

How can you say
that I didn't try
You know I did
You see things in the dephts of my eyes
that my love's run dry

...so I read to myself:
A chance of a lifetime to see new horizons
On the front page
a black and white picture of
Manhattan skyline

It would be helpful if you could specify the corrected errors. I've found no corrections except one additional line break and deletion of brackets in one place. Please let me know if you think anything else needs correction.
Plus, logically, if you think that there should be a line break before "Now I must wave goodbye...", there should be one also before "And they say: wave goodbye...", otherwise I see no sense in changing one and leaving the other as is. I'll make the second line break as well.

Sorry but I have corrected so many lyrics that I am not able to remember any single correction.
If you find something I did wrong feel free to tell me - or even better correct it without telling me.
Both we are not the owners of these lyrics.

Hi Geli, as I mentioned above: I added one more line break to make the text look aligned logically. I remember that at the moment of publishing the song I also detected a lot of errors in the original lyrics that I tried to correct after listening to the song several times. I hope I corrected if not all, then at least most of them.

CoopysnoopyCoopysnoopy    Tue, 14/03/2017 - 17:24

I think there weren't many errors left. I did not mean to criticize you at all.
:)

Don't worry, I didn't feel criticized. I just couldn't identify the "errors" and I was wondering if I overlooked something (which could always happen) and if yes, where and what I should correct. Don't hesitate to "criticize" me again

CoopysnoopyCoopysnoopy    Mon, 20/03/2017 - 19:47

I think they sing "I don't wanna" instead of "I don't want to". Agree?

AzaliaAzalia
   Mon, 20/03/2017 - 20:02

Yes, I think so, although Morten's pronunciation is not very clear sometimes. On the other hand, he definitely does not sing "I never want to see you hurt". He sings (surprise, surprise! :D ) "I don't wanna see you hurt" and this is what I translated into Polish. I don't wanna ;) meddle with your corrections, so I'm just humbly asking you to make this one. Happy spring to you, Geli!

CoopysnoopyCoopysnoopy    Tue, 21/03/2017 - 07:20

Morten also sings "brings back words".

AzaliaAzalia

... which I think is wrong, taking into consideration "the wind and the rain". But you are right, I also hear this, so please correct it if you wish.

CoopysnoopyCoopysnoopy    Tue, 21/03/2017 - 08:14

Im not sure about "my blood's sweet with pain"...

CoopysnoopyCoopysnoopy    Tue, 21/03/2017 - 08:17

Some sources say "sweet for pain". What do you think?

AzaliaAzalia
   Tue, 21/03/2017 - 08:27

Geli, if you insist on changing the lyrics according to what you find on the Internet (where one lyrics page copies errors from another one), then I can only sigh. Yes, I remember "blood sweet with pain", but I think it's rather "...filled with pain" and that's what I posted and that's what I translated. Of course I might be wrong as well, but then it doesn't make much sense to ask me for an opinion. Why? I repeat what I had written: when I was posting the song, I tried to double-check the lyrics and correct what I thought was wrong. If you want to "correct back" everything to the "Internet version", just go ahead. If you ask what I think... I think the correct was what I posted, but I admit I'm not always sure of the correctness of what I hear. I'm not a native speaker - that's one thing; another thing is the pronunciation of Morten Harket, which at times is a bit inarticulate.

CoopysnoopyCoopysnoopy    Tue, 21/03/2017 - 09:02

He definitely doesn't sing "filled with pain". Listen again.
You may write what you like but I am not convinced.
And I don't copy from the Internet without listenting - I just compare and check out.
But anyway.

AzaliaAzalia

I'm not convinced by neither and frankly, I'm tired of listening to the same song over and over again. Just please change into what you think is right and let's finish this discussion. I don't think I can contribute anything more here, sorry...

CoopysnoopyCoopysnoopy    Tue, 21/03/2017 - 10:42

* so I ask anybody else: any suggestions? Booklets or something?

CoopysnoopyCoopysnoopy    Fri, 21/04/2017 - 08:43

May I ask why you don't take the lyrics version of the booklet?
For example: "my blood's sweet for pain"?

AzaliaAzalia
   Fri, 21/04/2017 - 13:17

OK, here you are. May I ask if it finally closes the topic?

sandringsandring    Fri, 21/04/2017 - 13:49

Ladies, I hear
1.You know
  I don't wanna cry again,
  Don't wanna cry again,
  I don't wanna say goodbye,
Don't tell 'em I'll cry again
Oh, how

Can you say ....

I'll lean to their good-byes
Outcome depends on the look in their eyes
My blood, swift for pain, wind and the rain,
Brings back words of a song

It's so pathetic when people void of hearing post some lyrics and they get a go in the net. I hope I've helped you to solve the puzzles. Good day, ladies! :)

I just wonder if there isn't one "official" version (I'm not sure a booklet can be considered as such) of the song that would save us all this discussion. On the other hand, I don't think that hearing different thing means that any of us (or anyone at all) is void of hearing ;) Well, I give it up. Plus, as we are not in agreement as to the correct version of the original lyrics, I prefer to delete my translation so that I would not mislead anyone with incorrect interpretation of this text. Cheers!

CoopysnoopyCoopysnoopy    Fri, 21/04/2017 - 16:14

"I just wonder if there isn't one "official" version (I'm not sure a booklet can be considered as such"

Sciera is sure about booklet versions to be the official versions.

I do have the vinyl and there are lyrics on the sleeve...
Should I end this discussion by correcting the lyrics here? :)

sandringsandring    Fri, 21/04/2017 - 13:52

Outcome, too, depends

sandringsandring    Fri, 21/04/2017 - 14:20

I didn't mean you, you've done a great job. I mean that people paste and copy the first transcription they find. And then they all point at it and say ; It was posted though it's just a transcription. The lyrics very often are under copyright. We'll see them in fifty years :D

AzaliaAzalia
   Fri, 21/04/2017 - 14:30

No offence taken, Nadia. In fact, it was me who posted this song on LT in first place and I heard what I heard ;) I tried to make corrections in the lyrics found on the Internet (I don't remember which website I took them from) but then maybe in some places I got it wrong, I don't know... Anyway, I don't like to take responsibility for a potentially bad translation where I cannot be sure of the correctness of the original lyrics, so I've decided to delete my translation (surely nobody will "cry in the rain" about it). Of course, I don't feel discouraged and I will keep on translating... :)

sandringsandring    Fri, 21/04/2017 - 16:16

Azalia, I don't agree with you. At least now everything fits logically and grammatically. I'll edit the original lyrics, the transcription is yours anyway and you can enter a few minor changes. You shouldn't deprive readers of a possibility to know what the song is about, If there are complaints point at me and say: It wasn't me. Don't worry, together we'll stand, divided we'll fall *devil_smile*

sandringsandring    Fri, 21/04/2017 - 17:12

Azalia, now everything is logical, please come up with your translation, don't make me feel bad. :)

AzaliaAzalia
   Fri, 21/04/2017 - 18:01

Hi Nadia! You definitely have no reason to feel bad, so please don't! I wish everyone involved in this conversation (you, Geli, Sciera, Maluca, myself... anyone else?) a happy, relaxed weekend. I deleted my translation because I wasn't sure anymore it was good enough, but I still have it in my files so when the final version of the original lyrics is here to stay ;) I might repost my translation with all the needed modifications. It would not be the first time that I would repost the previously deleted translation. It happened before... once or twice. Don't worry, everything is fine. Take care :)

sandringsandring    Fri, 21/04/2017 - 17:16

Maluca, will you then edit the lyrics finally? And Azalia and Geli can make their translations peacefully. And everybody will be happy including me. Thank you in advance :)

malucamaluca
   Fri, 21/04/2017 - 19:18

I submitted the lyrics of the vinyl but the song sung in the video is a bit different. Maybe another version? The part with
" You see things in the dephts of my eyes
that my love's run dry"
is missing in the video but I kind of remember it (can't listen to my disc right now)...

malucamaluca
   Fri, 21/04/2017 - 19:28

Ok, I changed the video to the album version that includes this verse.

sandringsandring    Fri, 21/04/2017 - 19:27

Sounds like they've made it different a bit. But at least they're official lyrics and we can sleep well. :)

sandringsandring    Fri, 21/04/2017 - 19:29

Very reasonable! Thank you! :)

CoopysnoopyCoopysnoopy    Sat, 22/04/2017 - 06:48

This version is the same as the CD booklet's.

malucamaluca
   Sat, 22/04/2017 - 11:30

Yes, these are the lyrics as Pål wrote them, I guess. Morten sings it slightly different though...
For example:
We leave to their good-byes -> I leave to their good-byes
