Hallelujah

English

Hallelujah

Now I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you
To a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Baby I have been here before
I know this room, I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew you.
I've seen your flag
On the marble arch
Love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

There was a time you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show it to me, do you?
I remember when
I moved in you
The holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Maybe there's a God above
But all I ever learned from love
Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you
And it's not a cry
You can hear at night
It's not somebody who's seen the light
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

You say I took the name in vain
I don't even know the name
But if I did, well really, what's it to you?
There's a blaze of light
In every word
It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though
It all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah

Versions: #1#2#3

Hay una cuerda música
Que David tocó un día
Pero, ¿no te interesa música?
Lo va así, el cuarto, el quinto
La caída y ascenso
El rey componendo la Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Tu fe fue fuerte sin prueba
La viste bañando allá
Su belleza y la luna a trastornar
Te ató a una silla
Tu pelo cortado por ella
Y dibujó allá la Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Estuve aquí antes
Sé este lugar, y el piso e
Yo viví solamente antes te sabía
Y ví en el arco tu bandera
Amor no es victoria
Es un frío y rompido Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hay una vez dejaste
Qué pasa abajo actualmente
Pero tú nunca me mostras ahora
Yo recuerdo cuando moví en ti
La paloma santa movío así
Y solo dibujamos Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Quizás hay un Dios alto
Pero yo aprendí único
Cómo disparar a quien ganaba
Y no es en la noche un grito
O alguien quien vió el ligaro
Es un frío y muy triste Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Dices en vano dije el Nombre
Pero el Nombre yo no sé
Y qué sobre a ti si lo sabía
Hay un ligaro en todas palabras
No que importa si digo más
El santo o rompido Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hice mi mejor, no fue mucha
No pude sentir, y traté tocar
Yo dí verdad, y no vine enganar
Y aunque todo fue muy malo
Estaré delante del Señor
Con solo en mi boca Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah

Muy mala traducción.

Hey! You can at least give me credit for trying to rhyme the verses. Yours doesn't. So whose version is "peor"?

RataNegra     July 31st, 2012

Una traducción no puede ser evaluada en cuanto a las rimas. Claro está, si logras mantener el significado, y rimar a la vez, es mejor, pero lo principal es que lo que dice la versión original también lo diga la traducción.

It´s not all about the rhyming. For starters, trying to keep the rhyme of a language that has a completely different tone, rhythm, and stressing than your own is a very bad idea to begin with, but even so, practically every sentence here has some kind of mistake or does not make sense. For example "Lo va así". Lo is either an article or a pronoun used to mark the Direct Object on its absence. You can´t use it as the sibject of the sentence, it makes no sense. "Hallelujah" has a spanish translation, "Aleluya", and it´s a psalm. Psalms in Spanish are masculine, so it´s "el aleluya". "Rompido" isn´t even a word. The verb romper has an irregular participle, so it´s "roto". I could go one by one through all the sentences, everyone has something wrong.

I can give you an A for effort, since Cohen is a very difficult author, but you don´t get to complain when they say it´s a bad translation. It IS a very bad translation, rhyme or not.

Now that I think about it, this translation looks to be an example of "early installment weirdness" (frankly, I should've known better than to make my first attempt at translating a translation of Cohen either way, since yes, he is quite the challenge to translate into any language).

I had that "early installment weirdness", don't worry. It's just on my PM's and some comments, nothing too visible. I still have some weirdness, but it's not so much now.
