The Lost World (Izgubljeni Svijet )

English translation

The Lost World

I’ve always wanted to be another person
Hidden by a mask of cold smiles
Words were only made-up lies
They are guilty that you're not beside me.

If you ever meet me in passing
You will know I can no longer be this way
You will know because sadness is in view.

Ref. 2x
My frozen heart is an eternal sin.
My eyes are the door into the lost world
My life is a story in a daze**
--A reflection in a shattered mirror. (2nd time = A Ship as it sinks into an abyss.)

I’ve always wanted to be another person
Wrong feelings have always led me
My nights have scattered the darkness above the morning
The room has become a sea of memories.

If you ever meet me in passing
You will know I can no longer be this way
You will know because sadness is in view.

Author's comments:

**dat. polusnu > nom. polusan = doze / half-awake but I chose the word "daze" because it is a synonym in English for "half-awake" and it seemed the most fitting since a shattered mirror and a sinking ship would bring out emotions of shock and confusion.

If you have any suggestions to make the translation better, please feel free to comment! Smile

1) one su krive što te nema kraj mene = they are guilty of that you're not beside me.
here: krivi = 'are guilty of', (also 'to blame' may be used.)

2) skrivena grabuljom hladnih osmijeha = hidden under/by a mask of cold smiles.
here: grabulj(a) = mask (the archaic/dialectal meaning of the word).
I mean, this is a mask for carnival.

3) uvijek me vodili krivi osječaji. Here: krivi = 'wrong/fault' not 'guilty'.

4)'noći su moje nad jutrom rasule tamu' = my nights have scattered the darkness above the morning. (this is a single sentence )

ok

Now I don't see any error, but I'm not native Englishman.

I've just found one small error in my prev. post.
The 'mask' = 'Krabulja' in standard Croatian, not 'Grabulja'
I don't exactly know what is this? 1) usual typo 2) some dialectal pronounce

LudaVrana     August 31st, 2012

Hmm, then it must be a typo since I think hiding behind masks is more normal than hiding behind a rake hahahah. Tongue I listened to the song again on Youtube and it sounded like it could be either 'k' or 'g' but it's hard for me to tell since 1) The song has a ton of loud electronic beat/instrumental stuff going on in the background and 2) I'm not a native Croatian speaker.

I'm a native Englishwoman and I know the English is grammatically correct, so if you don't see anymore errors then I guess it should be fine. Smile I really appreciate that you took the time to proofread this translation! Smile
