Co by przy mojem miłością zadrżało:
A byłbym cichym pomiędzy cichemi...

Jednych ust trzeba! skąd bym wieczność całą
Pił napój szczęścia ustami mojemi,
I oczu dwoje, gdzie bym patrzał śmiało,
Widząc się świętym pomiędzy świętemi.

Jednego serca i rąk białych dwoje!
Co by mi oczy zasłoniły moje,
Bym zasnął słodko, marząc o aniele,

Który mnie niesie w objęciach do nieba...
Jednego serca! tak mało mi trzeba,
A jednak widzę, że żądam za wiele!

One heart I need on this earth!
That would tremble with love near to mine:
And I would be silent among the silent...

One mouth you need! From where I eternally would take
The whole drink of joy with my lips,
And a pair of eyes, where I would see bravely,
looking at me as a saint among the saints.

One heart and two pale arms!
Which would cover my eyes,
Thus I could sweetly fall asleep, dreaming of an angel,

Who is taking me in his arms to heaven...
One heart! So little I need,
But I see that I demand too much!
