Sephardic Folk - Yerushalaim de oro sos (English translation)

Ladino (Judeo-Spanish)

Yerushalaim de oro sos

Aver tan limpio i tan klaro
kon golor1 d'arvoles
los sonos de kampanas bolan
kon ayres de freskor

Su suenyo dulse entre las piedras
durme la sivdad
anyos duros, anyos d'ansias
en su soledad

Yerushalaim de oro sos
sos luz del mundo i de kovre sos
es tus kantes ke kanto
kon muncho amor. [x2]

Tantas luzezikas chikas
aklaran la sivdad
sientes el shofar de gloria
shofar de libertad.

Tornimos a los pozos d'agua
tornimos kon amor
bashar podemos la mar muerta
pasando Yeriho.

Yerushalaim de oro sos
sos luz del mundo i de kovre sos
es tus kantes ke kanto
kon muncho amor. [x2]

Submitter's comments:

A Ladino version of the song of Yerushalayim shel zahav (ירושלים של זהב). The song featured in the video has 1-2 word differences (which I've put in the footnotes). The only other two performances I can find is here where only the first two verses and the chorus are sung and another here.

English translation

Jerusalem of gold*

It's so clean and clear,
with the scent of the trees,
the bells resound, they travel
through the fresh air.

Among the stones, lies a city
that sleeps pleasantly,
it has endured the harsh years
and worries in its solitude.

Jerusalem of gold,
you're the light of the world and of bronze,
it's your songs that I sing,
with all of my love. [x2]

So many little lights,
illuminate the city,
one can feel the shofar of glory,
the shofar of freedom.

We'll return the the water wells,
we'll return with love,
down into the Dead Sea we'll go,
as we pass by Jericho.

Jerusalem of gold,
you're the light of the world and of bronze,
it's your songs that I sing,
with all of my love. [x2]

Author's comments:

It's a little more simple than the original, but I like both equally.
* = lit. 'you're made of gold'.
