Jerusalem of gold (Yerushalayim de Oro)

Ladino (Judeo-Spanish)

Yerushalayim de Oro

Aver tan limpio i tan klaro
kon aromas d'arvoles
los sonos de kampanas bolan
kon ayres de freskor.

Su suenyo dulse entre las piedras
durme la sivdad
anyos duros, anyos d'ansias
en su soledad.

Yerushalaim de oro sos
sos luz del mundo i de kovre sos
es tus kantes ke kanto
kon muncho amor. [x2]

Tantas luzezikas chikas
aklaran la sivdad
tu sientes el shofar de gloria
shofar de libertad.

Tornimos a los pozos d'agua
tornimos kon amor
bashar podemos al mar muerta
pasando Yeriho.

Yerushalaim de oro sos
sos luz del mundo i de kovre sos
es tus kantes ke kanto
kon muncho amor.

ירושלים של זהב
ושל נחושת ושל אור
הלא לכל שירייך
אני כינור, כינור

Submitter's comments:

A mixture of Ladino and the original Hebrew (there's 1-2 changes in Ladino but nothing really changes the meaning). Betty Klein is a magnificent singer and well accomplished both as a singer (she sings in more than five languages) and multi-instrumentalist (plays nine instruments).

Jerusalem of gold

It's so clean and clear,
with the scent of the trees,
the bells resound, they travel
through the fresh air.

Among the stones, lies a city
that sleeps pleasantly,
it has endured the harsh years
and worries in its solitude.

Jerusalem of gold,
you're the light of the world and of bronze,
it's your songs that I sing,
with all of my love. [x2]

1But as I sing to you, my city,
And you with crowns adorn,
I am the least of all your children,
Of all the poets born.

Your name will scorch my lips for ever,
Like a seraph's kiss, I'm told,
If I forget thee, golden city,
Jerusalem of gold.

Oh, Jerusalem of gold,
and of light and of bronze,
I am the lute
for all your songs. [x2]

So many little lights,
illuminate the city,
one can feel the shofar of glory,
the shofar of freedom.

We'll return the the water wells,
we'll return with love,
down into the Dead Sea we'll go,
as we pass by Jericho.

Jerusalem of gold,
you're the light of the world and of bronze,
it's your songs that I sing,
with all of my love.

Oh, Jerusalem of gold,
and of light and of bronze,
I am the lute
for all your songs...
