Not the Only One lyrics

English

Not the Only One

In my dreams, I have wings
And I walk through the skies
Flying so high I can touch the sun
You may call me a dreamer
But I'm talking to the birds
And they say that I'm not alone now

I am not the only one seeing the light
I am not a lonely voice in the night
If you're ever afraid of the dark
Here's my hand, fly with me
(Fly with me)

Follow me in my dreams
Don't leave it for tomorrow, it's so far away
No wonders ever happen if you only wait
So let a fantasy enlight your way
(Enlight your way)

Follow me in my dreams
Don't leave it for tomorrow, it's so far away
No wonders ever happen if you only wait
Allow your happiness to be more than just a word

(Follow me, oh oh o-oh o-oh)
(Follow me, oh oh o-oh o-oh)

In my dreams, I have words
That can ease every pain
I have songs that can heal the world
I put spells that are turning the tears into stars
And believe me I'm not alone

I am not the only one seeing the light
(Seeing the light)
I am not the lonely voice in the night
(Voice in the night)
If you're ever afraid of the dark
Here's my hand, fly with me
(Fly with me)

Follow me in my dreams
Don't leave it for tomorrow, it's so far away
No wonders ever happen if you only wait
So let a fantasy enlight your way
(Enlight your way)

Follow me in my dreams
Don't leave it for tomorrow, it's so far away
No wonders ever happen if you only wait
Allow your happiness to be more than just a word

Follow me
(Follow me)
In my dreams
(In my dreams)
Yeah yeah yeah
Allow your happiness to be more than just a word

Can you correct some mistakes in text that I notices while translating it to Russian?
"Like so high I can touch the sky" should be "Like so high I can touch the sun". Touch the sun, not the sky -- she's already there. )
Also "So let a fantasy light your way" should be "So let a fantasy enlight your way".
And at last, could you regroup lines into verses: 6, 5, 5, 6, 4, 8, 5, 4, 6? It seems more logical to me than what it is now.

To me "touch the sun" would be most unusual. Nevertheless, "touch the sun" may be what was said. And, someone else in the comments on the other video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDTPzr1OAVU (same song different place and time) said "enlighten the way" is correct. I'm not certain because my hearing is not that good. However, after listening to both songs several times, I believe you are correct so I will make the changes.

The rule for close captions (for the hearing impaired) is to accurately reproduce the words and not to be grammatically correct. However, grammatically correct subtitles (for those that hear well but don't understand the language) would be appropriate if it helps to understand the spoken language.

Regardless, my primary intent was publishing close captions (English) and subtitles (Russian and Spanish) for the song uploaded to YouTube. If you click on the song and click on YouTube or click on the foregoing link and then click on Setting you will find the Russian subtitles (your translation). The second subtitle 0:08 to 0:15 gives you credit for the translation.

I don't know how to do grouping for verses. I never learned how. Really, for the last 30 years, the primary purpose of public schools in the USA is to indoctrinate; not educate. Don't expect those of us in the USA to be knowledgeable or as well educated as people in Russia.

I can say the same about logic in some Russian songs. ) However, my "logical" comment was only about regrouping lines into verses but that's not so important.

My main concern is correctness of the original text, too. Thus, my suggestions are from my own understanding of the words that I hear when I'm listening to this song. And in the first case I certanly hear "touch the sun". In the second one I hear "enlight your way" (and I known that's really not a proper word). Just listened to the other recording, and I'm still hearing the same. Don't forget about braces! "(Light your way)" is ought to be "(Enlight your way)", too.

Can you update Russian subtitles, as I noticed minor errors at the end of the song and just corrected them? By the way, thanks for the credit!

You may have replied before I edited my comment and deleted my comment about logic, which I did after another person on YouTube stated that "enlight" is correct.

It is easy to make close captions or subtitles if you have the lyrics. Usually I find the lyrics by Googling title + singer + lyrics. However, this appears to be an unpublished song and since I couldn't understand all the words I paid Rev.com $4 ($1 per minute) to do the close captions. Usually they are very accurate. Rev.com claims 99% accuracy.

I changed two lines to "В мои мечты" & "(в мои мечты)". Let me know, if there are others lines that need changes.

Certainly "enlight" is not common usage but perhaps it was centuries ago. If you are certain (enlight your way) by the backup singers is correct, I will change it. I have nerve lesions in the higher frequencies so I have difficulty understand some words; especially, a few songs and occasionally women and children.

I just borrowed good headphones for my other project (which didn't end well -- http://lyricstranslate.com/en/iveta-mukuchyan-target-lyrics-request) and used them with the equalizer and the YouTube's speed control to listen to both on-stage and in-show performances. I based my result (I'll post it below) on the on-stage performance as it seems there were some problems with sound equipment in the in-show one -- Krisia does something with her earpiece.

I came to conclusion that, while I love how Krisia sings, sometimes she has an awful English pronunciation. But that's expected, as English isn't her native language. Smile By the way, she also performed one song in Russian and that was rather cute!

Now my results (I also regrouped the verses). Lines with the differences from the current text are in *asterisks* (I hope I marked all of them). Tomorrow I’ll update my Russian translation and let you know. I just hope this is the last change.

In my dreams, I have wings
And I walk through the skies
*Flying so high I can touch the sun*
You may call me a dreamer

Thank you very much. I edited the English verses and the grouping as you posted and then edited the Spanish translation. Krisia's sometimes poor English pronunciation may partly explain why these close captions by Rev.com has more errors than normal. But, some of the captioners at Rev.com are better than others.

Certainly "No wonders ever happen if you only wait" makes far more sense then "Not one has ever happened if you only wait." Tomorrow afternoon, if not earlier, I will edit my English and Spanish subtitles and re-upload. Then if you make more changes to the Russian translation I will edit on YouTube or re-upload.

Thanks to you for your initial work, too. By the way, while I'm not good in English punctuation and not totally sure of it, I think that in "I am not the only one, seeing the light" the comma is redundant.

I'll provide one explanation of transcriber's error as an example: "flying" versus "like". Krisia sings "flying" close to "fly ink" with sounds of "f" and "n" almost too short to be heard, thus it gets very close to "like".

I've already updated my translation. Unfortunately I changed too many lines (33 out of 49), but now I like this text much better. However, I think that in Russian subtitles: Krisia's name ought to be "Крисия Тодорова" and "Translated by ..." ought to be "Перевод: ..." -- so there is no Latin letters in Russian subtitles.

DWornock     July 3rd, 2016

I agree; there should be no comma in "I am not the only one seeing the light" so I removed in both the English and Spanish subtitles, the text, and translation. Also, I changed and uploaded your translation and made the changes you recommended.

I know I am error prone but hopefully I got it right. The subtitles in both songs are identical, except for timing which I re-sequenced by adding 2 seconds to each of the subtitles in the primary video. Please let me know if I made a mistake and I will correct.

Ivan U7n     July 3rd, 2016

The Russian subtitles are good, thanks! However I found one misspell in the English one. In "That can ease every pain" you have "easy" instead of "ease". Otherwise I'm very happy with current results! Thanks again for your work on subtitles!

DWornock     July 3rd, 2016

I made the corrections and my goodness! You spot errors after watching once that I didn't catch after playing the videos dozens of times. "That can easy [ease] every pain" was in the original close caption from Rev.com. I assume that is a typo error that neither Rev.com nor I caught since "easy" doesn't make sense and "ease" is easy enough to understand.
