Mexican Folk - La cucaracha (English translation)

La cucaracha

La cucaracha, la cucaracha,
ya no puede caminar
porque le falta, porque no tiene
marihuana pa' fumar.
Ya murió la cucaracha
ya la llevan a enterrar
entre cuatro zopilotes
y un ratón de sacristán.

The cockroach

The cockroach, the cockroach,
can't walk anymore
because it's lacking, because it doesn't have
marijuana to smoke.
The cockroach just died
now they take her to be buried
among four buzzards
and a mouse as the sexton.

Is this the original song or a parody ? I had no idea the cockroach no longer had marijuana.

This is a very old song, and in those times marijuana was the ordinary thing in Mexico like tobacco.

The lyrics are real. La Cucaracha is the name of a locomotive, that's why it needs to smoke for walking.
