Delphine - La fermeture-éclair (English translation)

French

La fermeture-éclair

Tu es de bonne famille
Et très attentionné
Pourtant je me méfie
Les garçons c'est rusé
Et je tiens ferme
L'œil sur la ferme
-ture éclair

Je sais que ça te flatte
De me voir t'arrêter
Te dire « à bas les pattes ! »
D'un air très décidé
Et je tiens ferme
L'œil sur la ferme
-ture éclair

Car si j'aime les jeux
Qui font briller les yeux
Finis les jeux
S'ils sont dangereux

Pourtant un jour viendra
Et ça tu le sais bien
Où ta main gagnera
Mais ce n'est pas demain
Car je tiens ferme
L'œil sur la ferme
-ture éclair

The zip fastening

You're well brought up
and very attentionate.
Still I am wary,
boys are such sly creatures,
so I hold my hand fast
on the zip fast
-ening

I know you feel flattered
when you see me stopping you,
telling you "hands off !"
with a quite resolute air.
and I hold my hand fast
on the zip fast
-ening

Although I like the kind of games
that make the eyes sparkle,
the games come to an end
when they are risky.

Still one day will come,
and you know it very well,
when your hand will prevail.
But that's not happening anytime soon
because I hold my hand fast
on the zip fast
-ening

Author's comments:

I scratched my head to render the effect. The French plays on "ferme" (firmly) and "fermeture": "closing" or "fastening" as in "fermeture-éclair" (zip fastening).
In the end I traded an eye for a hand, but hopefully the idea stays the same.
