Nana Mouskouri - La paloma adieu (English translation)

    Oh mon amour, adieu !

English translation

Goodbye my dove, goodbye

Versions: #1#2
When I was a child, my mother would sing to me at bedtime a song, the story of a lost boat and a white bird.
One day a boat set sail across the ocean wide, leaving behind all on her own a young girl with a heart bursting with love for her sailor.

He said "don't forget me my love, I will always love you"
The girl waited all winter and into the spring, and still the boat had not returned.
One day a white bird flew up to her, perched next to her, carrying under it's wing a message.

Good bye my dove, Forever goodbye for it is you I love, my life is passing as I perish, but do not weep for it is you who I love, Adieu!

The young girl, holds the beautiful white dove tight to her bosom. Together they depart for the ocean. Love never dies. Soon after I saw two doves flying over the ocean as night began to fall.

Good bye my dove, Forever goodbye for it is you I love, my life is passing as I perish, but do not weep for it is you who I love, Adieu!

Author's comments:

I have taken a few liberties here and there with the translation, because for those that don't speak french, as in many other languages there is a distinction between the words "Adieu" and "Au revoir" for example. I think this must have been the first time in an age I heard Nana Mouscouri and Mireille Mathieu. I hope it helps those that requested a translation. I think this lyricstranslate site is a lovely idea. As for the song, well it's one of those sad ones with a meaning, a sort of parable I suppose. ... E

My sincere thanks go to all of you: Vivianeee, Afra and Ernest Millward who has translated his first song: 'La paloma adieu' , the song that I have proposed.
We all know that we will never be able to produce good lyrics in a new language.
However, it is worth trying, we train and exercise in a very pleasant way.
I do not claim to be a top translator, but I try to choose good songs, I write the lyrics carefully and always I add a link to the music.
I am proud that you appreciate and choose the music pieces I send.
- See you later alligator!
- In a while crocodile!
