Sektor Gaza - Mazhor (Мажор) (English translation)

Russian

Mazhor (Мажор)

Девушку своей мечты встретил я…
Но она не глянет на меня:
«Знаете ли вы как вас долго искал?
Из тысячи выбрал лишь Вас!»
Но она не глянет на меня….

Потому что я не мажор!
Потому что я не мажор!
Потому что я не мажор!
Потому что я не мажоррр!

Rich kid

I met the girl of my dreams
But she wouldn't look at me:
"You know how long I've been searching for you?"
From among thousands I chose only you! "
But she wouldn't look at me...

Because I'm not a rich kid (1)
Because I'm not a rich kid!
Because I'm not a rich kid!
Because I'm not a rich kid!

Мажор is a... Person. Oftenly, the son of very reach parents, which likes to expensive cars, fashion clothes. They think that they are all allowed, cuz they has rich parents, which save they ass in any situation. Looks like a parody on the gays, but they say everyone that they r straight but... It's very doubtfully.

Hey mate, you shouldn't stop translating because of that! Every language has it owns slangs, idioms and nuances, (this, for me, is what makes translating so challenging and fun) therefore there is, indeed, the need for research, it is paramount because there's no other way to know every slang / expression of every region, and also the author's intention with the choice of words, which is another particularity. This is part of the endless learning curve of the linguistic process.

With that said I'm also going to add that I've realised that the Russian community is very active, and also, very, very critical, for better or worse.

Anyway, "Rich kid" seems to be a very well defined, universal term, and I've understood the meaning and context of it very clearly. If the original word is a particular kind of slang or unique word which could have a match in English, I think I could add the suggestion of "daddy's boy" - a guy who lives at the expenses of its parent's money. There's also "playboy", it seems to summarise the concept of a "good-for-nothing" rich boy, although it does seem to imply some macho promiscuity connotation.

Think if the suggestions are really needed and do as you will. And do not give up! Cheers!

PS: I've started writing this comment before checking your account.. 32k points, well, what a troll! Hehe. You sure don't need no incentive from me. Anyway, all the best.

Mark, you SHOULD listen to this song (and, of course, to read the lyrics along with the translation which is good enough to completely understand what that Soviet slang word "мажор" really means) Regular smile
