My country feels bad (Mon pays va mal)

English translation

My country feels bad

The country feels bad
The country feels bad
The country feels bad
From bad to worse
My country feels bad

Before, we did not call people
Northerners and Southerners
Now today everything is ruined
The Army is divided
The society is divided
The students are divided
Even our mothers in the market square
are divided

The country feels bad
The country feels bad
The country feels bad
From bad to worse
My country feels bad

Before, we did not call people
Christians
nor Muslims
Now today
they ruined everything
The Army is divided
The society is divided
The students are divided
Even our mothers in the market square
are divided

The country feels bad
The country feels bad
The country feels bad
From bad to worse
My country feels bad

We lack remedies
against injustice, tribalism,
xenophobia.
After ivority1,
they cried out "i de als"2

The country feels bad
The country feels bad
The country feels bad
From bad to worse
My country feels bad

The country is in turmoil
They want to mess things up
back home
The country is in turmoil
They want to mess things up
back home
Let all who want to bring about
the downfall of our country
be punished by God (Allah)
Things are a mess
It's everybody for himself

The country feels bad
The country feels bad
The country feels bad
From bad to worse
My country feels bad

The country feels bad
The country feels bad
The country feels bad
From bad to worse
My country feels bad

  • 1. An ideology of community among all Ivory Coast inhabitants, that led (among other things) to the 1999-2007 civil war
  • 2. A kind of pun on various cries (ooo i o) that sound like "ideals". Unless some more specific allusion escapes me...
Do whatever you want with my translations. I'm not rich enough to sue you anyway.

Author's comments:

The part that's not in French was translated from some French translation I stumbled upon on the Internet.
The French is slightly different from what is used in France too, but nothing major.
Use at your own risk, especially if you intend to learn French!

Salut,

une suggestion :
"avant on ne parlait pas de.." → we didn't used to talk about..
Le they de généralité n'a rien de faux mais puisque le chanteur parle de son propre pays, je pense qu'il peut s'inclure lui-même avec we.

Bonne remarque. C'est mieux comme ça. J'ai même remanié la phrase tant que j'y étais :).
