An old man (Ein alter Mann)

English translation

An old man

An old man is standing on the stage
(he) can barely stand straight upright
almost no one in the bright hall
(he) still has the courage to look

Long lost is the old spark
(he) insisted on
playing the old song again
until finally everyone hated him

What has become of you?
Poor old man

An old man stands in front of his end
(he) didn't notice the signs
(he) seeks with a desperate look
coins in the empty hand

Long lost is the old spark,
(he) insisted on
trying again and again
even though everyone hated him already

What has become of you?
Poor old man

At one point it's time to go
Goodbye forever
The world is accepting the loss
lets the fate decide its course

An old man is standing on the bridge
(he) doesn't dare to look down
a sting in the flaccid chest
he can't resist anymore and jumps

What has become of you?
Poor old man

At one point it's time to go
Goodbye forever
The world is accepting the loss
lets the fate decide its course

At one point it's time to go
Goodbye forever
(he) continues singing, he hangs him up
old custom, old tradition

''Will er es sich nicht nehmen lassen'' and ''Kann er es sich nicht nehmen lassen'' can both also be translated to ''He doesn't want to miss the opportunity'' or ''He doesn't refrain from''.
I took ''he insists'' because it fits the context and mood better.

The ''he'' is in brackets, because the word doesn't appear, but for easier understanding I added it.
