Original lyrics
Papa schüttelt seinen Kopf
Erinnerst du dich? Eure DJs hatten Platten,
Was damals dufte war
ist heute leider fett
und hat kein Respekt
nein uns kriegt geht hier keiner weg
Komm lass die Alten reden
wir werden nie erwachsen
weil wir mit Abstand hier die coolste Gang in dieser Stadt sind
Also Platz denn

Translation
Papa's Shaking His Head
Do you remember? Your DJs had vinyl,
ours too, but today they’re just for scratching
and your hair says hello; look, I’m grown up
but today all the women have shaved armpits. ¹
Look, the clock is ticking ²
we don’t want to hold it up.
We don’t need any sleep
and we mix our booze with energy drinks.
We don’t have a clue how to send a letter;
therefore, we write songs over Wireless LAN, Daddy
[Chorus:]
Times are changing
and Papa’s shaking his head
Times are changing,
but I’m sure you would have done it too.
You composed it
and we’ve stolen the song.
You had the young Beatles,
we’ve got an old Dieter Bohlen. ³
For you it was action, every day was a revolution.
You can get a ring tone through TV
with us
Back in your day, typewriters were high tech,
today, it’s IMags, IPhones, IPads.
You had to book a flight and sit in a tent ⁴
we can chat around the world
on Youtube and Facebook.
[Chorus:]
Times are changing
and Papa’s shaking his head
Times are changing,
but I’m sure you would have done it too.
What was once in style
is sadly phat today,⁵
and doesn’t get respect.
No, no one’s getting us out of here.
Come on, let the old fogies talk,
we’ll never grow up
‘cause we’re the coolest gang
in this town by far.
So make room then, ⁶
we’re coming over with the homies ⁷
and we don’t have a problem beating your
whole band.
Wow, wow, dumb asses!
It’s the way it is dude; instead of Jimi,
Pac is hanging in every kid's bedroom. ⁸
[Chorus x 2:]
Times are changing
and Papa’s shaking his head.
Times are changing,
but I’m sure you would have done it too.

Russia is waging a disgraceful war on Ukraine. Stand With Ukraine!
¹ today all the women have shaved armpits: this is a reference to how things have changed from an earlier time. Thirty years ago, not too many German women shaved their armpits.
² Straight translation: Sieh die Zeit rennt = Watch the time race/run. “The clock is ticking” carries the meaning in English.
³ Dieter Bohlen is a German songwriter, singer, musician, producer, entertainer, and TV personality. During the 80s, he was known best as a member of the popular pop-duo “Modern Talking.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dieter_Bohlen
⁴ sit in a tent: the meaning here: to chat and/or bond with someone, you had to go camping and spend time with them where today, it’s all done over the internet.
⁵ was damals dufte war ist heute leider fett: this seems to be a puzzling phrase, and translated straight, it doesn’t make a lot of sense unless you look at the words used in the phrase. “Dufte” is an “older” word, which, in many areas isn’t used anymore, therefore it belongs to the “old” category. “Fett” on the other hand, is a contemporary word meaning something good: “Pfat” = cool and fat. With the word “leider” it paints it as a negative. What this could be saying: what was once hip and cool, today is sadly cool (again). Everything comes full circle? perhaps! And I’d like to thank Sciera for brining this phrase to my attention!! Danke!!
⁶„(mach) Platz“ = (make) room, but could also be translated to “lay down,” as that is also a command for dogs to „lay down.”
⁷ Atzen = homie, but is also the name of a German rap duo, Manny Marc and Vincente de Teba Költerhoff, who are known for producing “Ghetto Tech” songs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frauenarzt
http://blogs.pm-magazin.de/SprachBlog/stories/13199/
⁸ „Jimi“ is probably a reference to Jimi Hendrix. Expanding on the thought: “in your day, everyone had a poster of Jimi Hendrix hanging in their bedroom, now there’s a poster of (2)Pac hanging in every kid’s bedroom.
